Joining (wirelessly extending?) an existing Airport Extreme

I am sure this has been covered and I am sorry for asking as I dont know where to look.
I have an Airport Extreme (n) connected to the Internet via a cable modem.
I use the wireless without problems to my laptop, iPad, iPhone, etc.
I have a media server that can connect to the internet/network via an Ethernet port (for controlling remotely via a Web interface, downloading gracenote info, and streaming/importing music).
My problem is that I can get it working via cable - that is running a cable from the back of the media server to my Airport Extreme - but I dont want the cable crossing across my living room.

Can I connect to it wirelessly via my existing wireless network?
I have an extra (old) Wireless router (SMC Barracuda) - but how do I configure it to talk to my existing wireless (can I even do this)?

thanks

-michael
