Just a heads up for anybody else like me who is on a GWI naked DSL plan: I am currently paying $44.95 for 5mbps but I see now that "up to 20mbps" is available for $49.95/mo. This seems like a good deal if you're close to the CO. I think I will call them up soon and see what speeds I can expect from my location.
reply to ElJay Yes that price is only for naked DSL. I talked to a salesperson today and from what I understand they remove the cap on the speed of your line, so you will get the max speed physically possible for your distance. From my location of 9000ft they said it should be about 8.8mbps. In my case, 75% additional speed for an extra $5/mo seemed worthwhile for me.
reply to ElJay I'll be switching to this plan as soon as everything goes through... gonna be around 12mbps for me.... but, beats pants off all other providers....
reply to ElJay My order was finalized today and I am getting near 9mbps. Latency has increased by about 15ms. I did have to swap out my modem, since the Zoom 5615 modem I was using before didn't want to go above about 6mbps, despite being ADSL2+ capable. I am using a Westell 6100 I had lying around.
It seems like on Friday the main swap to new equipment occurred (got a new IP address) and then on Monday I actually got the speed increase. In the meantime my speed had gone from 5mbps to about 3mbps, which was a bit concerning. I called up tech support on Friday night and they said the order was still in process.
