6 inches of snow...

single digits over night (was 28 degrees when it was snowing) and 1 degree now. Going to see Chris Titus tomorrow night with a good chance at below 0 temps. Last time he was in town it did the same damn thing....

The amazing thing is - with the new deicer fluid and the sun - even though it is 13 degrees - the roads are not icy. Slushy in a couple of areas but not icy - lots of wet roads.... Back 10 years ago - they would still be ice rinks.

Our current forecast is calling for 12 to 16 inches followed by high winds and single digit/sub zero temps over the next couple days.

What a cr*p winter!

We are supposed to get up to 2 inches of freezing rain, sleet and then possibly rain between tonight and Wednesday morning.

Guess I'd rather have a ton of snow than any ice!

They just changed us from a winter weather watch to a Winter Storm Warning. Locally, 2-4" of snow, then 1/4 to 1/2" of freezing rain, and turning back to 2-4" more snow before it's all over. Oh boy! Just what I need on top of this damn sinus infection. As much as I usually do not mind winter weather around here, this is starting to get to me!!! I'm more than ready to see the grass again.

Yep - driveway was very smooth - out out ice and the schools were out - going to have to make up at least one day unless the new governor changes the calamity days (while cutting the school budget by 30%).

Got to work - the roads sprayed with the solution works well - the center of the streets have decent traction due to roughed up ice.

Expect another 1/4 inch today then more tonight and then late night - it is supposed to turn into rain...

Certainly is a mess - got home around 1 pm to make sure I got home before round 2. Been raining pretty hard since 7 pm or so. Driveway is a mess - did not even attempt to take the garbage down to the street - I could probably just give it one good push to get the can down the driveway and maybe into the neighbors yard. Street is a sheet of ice unlike this morning.

Temps moving up to above freezing and then falling around morning to below freezing and then have snow....

Kettering and Oakwood have power outages:

And my ILs ,who live near us, just lost their power. I better sign off in case we lose power....

Power is flickering, trees are falling, transformers are blowing. I moved my cars out from under the trees. We saw transformer in the distance blow. We can hear tree branches falling in the park across the street about one every 5 minutes. This is nasty...

What you can expect -- It's a short-lived but fugly storm. It's well out of Oklahoma now, and the results are in: 12.1" of snowfall in OKC, but with drifts up to 5 feet. Now the big factors are temperature and wind. Actual temperature here is 5F with a wind chill of -16F, winds 21 with gusts to around 30. Roads are still an absolute mess, most schools, State offices, schools are still closed today. Airport was closed yesterday, one runway open today.
The wind is just blowing snow back onto cleared streets, which have gotten a bit worse where there was some melting and has now frozen over. I'm thinking of staying home today even though it's only a 4 mile drive to work.
Bad stories out of it:
a 20 yr old woman was being towed on a sled and it went out of control and she was thrown into a guard rail and died from a broken neck.
Firemen were unable to fight one housefire effectively because they couldn't get into the home because their self-contained breathing apparatus kept freezing up, so they just "contained" the fire from outside.
One news station was sending a vehicle out for some live reporting; hit 5 station employee vehicles before it even got out of their parking lot.
The future: It's going to be around for a while since they're not expecting temperatures to rise above freezing point until this weekend. The entire state is covered by either a windchill warning or alert - temperatures right now (sun just starting to rise) range from -4F in OK panhandle to about 5F over most of the state.
That's about it from around here,

Stay Safe

It was downright ugly late last night! Crews, apparently, fought all night long as it's really not as bad as it could be this morning. Roads are covered but it seems more slush than ice. Pretty much all the schools closed again today, though. It is pretty windy... I can hear it howling through the trees, and the wife's various wind chimes are all clanging themselves to death..

On another note, though, it appears the plows are still circling the neighborhoods to try to scrape off the now-frozen slush from the streets. This little burg doesn't do a lot of things, but they do make a decent attempt at keeping the streets as clear as possible. They seem to stay at it 'til they're scraping nothing but sparks off the pavement. Either that, or the street department crews are just trying to max out their overtime pay. Surprisingly this year, they haven't destroyed any mailboxes on our street. They're usually good for at least a couple.

I know that when I clear my drive, I try to make a pass or two just along the curb to show them where it's at. That, and it helps decrease some of the stuff they invariably throw up onto the bottom of the driveways, where it likes to freeze solid, defying all but superhuman efforts to remove.

We lost power at 10:30 PM last night - we still do not have power and the last I check the temp in the house was 54. We are at the inlaws and they are saying nearly single digit temps overnight.

Wind caused havoc with the trees and the ice. We only lost small branches but there are many trees and large branches down.

Sorry to hear about the power loss. Hope they get it back on soon so you don't have any more serious problems like frozen pipes (did you leave any water running to help put that off?).

We hit 14F today, on our way back to down around 4 or 5F overnight.
