Upnp enabled but Ps3 says unavailable

I'm having problems with my westell 327w dsl router and ps3. I've enabled Upnp through my router as I'm having issues playing a few multiplayer games. Yet when I do a internet test my ps3 still show Upnp as unavailable. Any suggestions?

I will describe to you my network.

#1 Phone Line -> Westell 6100F (+power supply) -> Linksys WRT54G (+power supply).

#2 Besides the Westell 6100F and the power supply connected to the Linksys WRT54G, I have four computers (all wired).

Please describe your network, as best as you can.

This will help try to figure out what is going on.

Are you on Road Runner or Verizon Generalz32?

Ok that helps.

While I know you said you have the Westell 327w and you trying to allow PS3 to work, does the screens of your router look like:

a) »screenshots.portforward. ··· ndex.htm ?

OR

b) »portforward.com/english/ ··· rver.htm

Ok.

#1 In the router go to System Monitoring -> Gateway Status

#2 With another web browser window or tab, go to »www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

#3 In the same paragraph of There is no standard governing the format of these machine names, so this is not something we can automatically determine for you is an IP Address.

#4 Without posting what that IP Address is (for privacy/security reasons), that IP Address in the router at the screen that I told you to go to?

#5 Now in the router go to Advanced -> Private LAN

#6 What is the current Starting and Ending IP Address?

#7 While I know you have this PS3 behind this router: Are there any other special types of computers that support UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) where you can not define the ports that it/they use?

If you had uTorrent installed on a computer, as noted at »portforward.com/english/ ··· rent.htm

you can define the ports that it uses.

#8 If you have any other special types of computers behind this router, if:

a) you do not know if they supoport UPnP

AND OR

b) you do not know if they allow you to define the ports that it/they use.

Please post what all of the other special types of computers are.

The IP address from grc.com is the same as the one listed in gateway status.
The starting ip is 192.168.1.15
The ending ip is 192.168.1.47
No I don't have any other devices that UPnP.
Yes I've portforwared Utorrent before and have successfully open ports used. I've portforwarding ports used ps3 as a alternative to using UPnP and was successful but it seems UPnP is necessary for communication in some PlayStation titles .

Ok.

#1 In the router disable UPnP.

#2 On the PS3 setup a Static IP

»portforward.com/networki ··· icip.htm

»portforward.com/networki ··· on-3.htm

#3 That Static IP can either be:

a) Above 1 but below 15

b) OR above 47 but below 255

#4 In the router forward to the PS3.

If that game still does not work:

#1 Go to »network-tools.com/

#2 Select Ping

#3 Press Go.

Does it look something like

a)
quote:
Ping 4.79.142.200

I have a Westell 7500 modem and a Linksys WRT160N v.2 that I am having a similar problem with. I have the Westell modem in bridge mode (since it also serves as a wireless router and I have turned off wireless routing on the Westell Modem) so all routing is done by the Linksys router. I have UPnP enabled on the router and my PS3.

When I do a connection test on my PS3 the UPnP will show Available. However, after a few hours (or overnight) if I log into my PS3 again it will show Unavailable. This will cause my NAT type in games to go from OPEN to Moderate. If I power off the modem and router, then power them back on and check my PS3, the UPnP will show as Available.

It is very frustrating to have to keep powering both devices on and off to get UPnP Available. I have XBox 360s connected (one wired and one wireless) and they almost always have an OPEN NAT type, which indicates that they are recognizing the UPnP.

Not sure if it's a port forwarding issue or not. I really don't want to go the port forwarding route because that would cause me to dedicate ports to the PS3, which would block them for the 360s, thus causing me to get a MODERATE or STRICT NAT type on the 360s.

If I could just get the PS3s to always recognize UPnP as available I would be fine. Not sure if it's a router issue or not. I have ordered a Linksys E2000 router and will see if this helps to solve my problem. I will try the stock firmware for the Linksys and if that doesn't work I will try DD-WRT firmware or Tomato to see if that solves my UPnP issues. I also have Verizon sending me a Westell 6100 modem (just in case the modem is the problem) that doesn't have wireless router features, which I will hook up and put in bridge mode.

This has been a real pain over the past 3 weeks. I'm just looking to get UPnP Available on my PS3s so I can get a consistent OPEN NAT. Sorry for the long post, I'd definitely like to hear anyone's suggestions.

Thanks.

Sorry about the duplicate post. Didn't know they would show up back to back in same forum. Won't happen again.
