I was looking at the Best Buy ad in Sunday's paper and they had a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem [which technically isn't a modem at all, IIRC] for sale.

As someone who has always had DSL, why would you need to buy a Cable Modem? Isn't this something that your Cable Company/ISP is always going to provide for you?

Yeah TWC is giving out SBG6580's to people who subscribe to the extreme 30/5 or 50/5 tiers. These modems have 8 channel downstream bonding capabliites for future growth.

Are the 30/5 & 50/5 plans available in only limited areas? I'm in 75002 & really want higher speeds.

They are rolled out across the entire metro area but if you live in an apartment that has only analog service it is not available. They rolled out extreme and wideband last year in the 1 and 2 quarters of 2010 the rollout for dallas metro is finished.

Now austin and san antonio on the other hand are just getting ready to start their Docsis 3.0 rollout with the extreme 20/2 tier just launched in the rest of texas and will be bumped to 30/5 when D3.0 hits those markets.

Do you guys know the prices for 30/5 or 50/5? I wasted 45 minutes on a chat session where they decided I needed to call in.

In most areas. WB is 99 bucks and extreme is 20 bucks more than standard.
