That Pesky $8 Modem Rental Fee

More than once, someone or other has asked WHERE in the CRTC tariffs and decisions that Bell was allowed to charge this $8 monthly rental fee to the IISPs (and hence their respective customers), if they chose VDSL service such as 25/7 speed tier.

And today, an answer has finally surfaced :

»[Official] $8 Rental and Some Answers

BTW, that thread is currently at the TOP of the DSLR Hot Topics list.

The answer to that $8 question can be found right in this forum when back around July, 2010, both Bell and Telus said to the CRTC at the oral hearings that a "customer service apocalypse" (that is actual the words they used) would follow if they couldn't lock people in to their locked-out modems.

$8 is what bell charges ISPs. And at the moment, there is no way for ISPs or individuals to own the modems. But this is something being looked at.

I'm not sure whether Acanac's website is updated yet.

TSI New QC CABLE Plans & Prices

These, unofficially, are the new long-awaited numbers for Quebec :

»New Quebec Cable Rates - As of March 13, 2012

»Re: New DSL and CABLE price comparison Quebec starting february

The TSI website seems to be already updated with these, so I guess it's official.

Most rates have been reduced, and/or caps increased.

Someone else started the thread in the TSI forum, but Marc has posted there too.

And it's simple to remember.

Everything is either 300GB monthly usage cap or Unlimited monthly usage.

What do you mean unofficially? The prices are up on their website.

JF, are you allowing yourself to comment, or are you 'ignoring' this 'announcement'.

[SPREADSHEET of Prices & Plans of Ontario IISPs]

This comparison sheet is mainly intended to cover Cable TPIA Indies, but I have included incumbents Rogers' & Cogeco's latest non-bundled, non-contracted, non-promo'd residential rates and speeds, plus the plans of a few of the better known DSL Indies, to aid quick and easy comparison by shoppers.

Cheers !

JF, are you allowing yourself to comment, or are you 'ignoring' this 'announcement'.

The new TPIA rate structure has enabled product/service differentiation and innovations such as reduced speeds or unlimited usage off-peak. So I welcome any ISP, even those whose name I can't pronouce making new product offerings which are different from the rest.

How's that for a neutral answer ?

So yes and yes, then.

You ignored the question for nearly 3 days, gave up on trying to ignore it, and after that made a comment (or a non-comment, as the case may be).

Spoken like a politician.

(and notice that I did not even comment upon your comment itself, only upon your frame of mind surrounding it )

If the truth were to be told, JF prob'ly finished watching all of the Futurama eps on NetFlix and finally surfaced.

BTW, when NF plays TV eps, do they insert any commericals, or do the eps run the same shorter length as a trimmed p2p file would ?

Rogers Bumps Retail Speeds (and Prices)

The speeds are impressive, but there is a fine print link to the new higher prices for 3 of their 5 tiers for March 1st.

It would have been easier for them to do just ONE update to the web page rather than 2, doncha think ?

Re: Globe & Other 2011-44 (UBB) articles

Yet ANOTHER R&V request against 2011-703 !

This time, it's B$ELL.

»Here we go.Bell R&V of 703

Looks like JF might be mistaken when he said that March is FTTN Month.

Instead may I suggest that March is R&V 703 Month !

It's almost easier to list who has NOT filed one.

Once CNOC files its R&V today, I will be the only one without an R&V.

Was thinking of writing one asking to change a word in the 703 decision to complete the collection of R&Vs for 703.

Better yet, write one asking for functional separation as the only way to sort out this mess since clearly one can't deal with thugs.

I just HAD to add that one word to your statement.

So, in the spirit of bureaucracy & red tape, I hereby file a 'Part 1 application' with you that you accept my additional word.

Please note (as I believe that JF explained to me yesterday in another thread) that this is not an R&V type of Part 1, as it does not ask you to change or remove any of YOUR words, but only to ADD one of MINE.
