»Strombo talks UBB again!

There may be a longer bit from him tonight on UBB than what's described in the thread, not sure.

Need to review the full Ep, if it's available online.

What is a FAIR PRICE for INTERNET ?

.
Now that we have heard all this flap about UBB, some may be wondering whether Bell and the other big providers just MIGHT have a point after all.

So what might be a fair rate to pay for Internet, if we wish to take into account paying a reasonable price for using more ?

I posted this thread only last week, and its proposal still makes sense to me.

Just yesterday, The Globe and Mail has also offered opinions about just that same question :

THEY wrote :

"Rather than ensuring consumers receive fair Internet pricing, the CRTC seems content to line the pockets of Cable and telecommunications companies by forcing Canadian consumers to pay Internet data rates that have no basis in reality."

This is one of the better articles I've read. He approaches it properly and talks about what is fair.

We established independent regulators because they’re supposed to have the expertise, the freedom from partisan pressures, the time and the longer-term perspective to make the painful and complex decisions required to keep industries that are otherwise liable to market failure operating in some semblance of the public interest. Does the cabinet really want to position itself as the effective arbiter for all the campaigns of rent-seeking and special pleading that an institution such as the CRTC has historically dealt with?

»Canadian Caps Aren't Economically Justified

"You'll recall that when Time Warner Cable tried to impose low caps and high per gigabyte overages here in the States, they proclaimed the move was financially necessary because flat-rate broadband pricing wasn't sustainable.

Consumer backlash to the idea of over-paying by the byte forced Time Warner Cable to back off the plan, and they've reported several consecutive quarters of healthy profit under that supposedly unsustainable flat-rate pricing model."
