In particular, the next to last hop in the "1 minute MTR (hop loss analysis) from West Coast - USA" always has a high loss. e.g. »/pingtest/9982···/2722266
The FAQ tells me that next to last hop is my Gateway. To me, an admitted network novice and old guy, my gateway would be my router. But that doesn't make sense as nothing changes when I take the router out of the network, and anyway, other people in the world have the same address for that hop.
So I guess my question is What is that address? Is that gateway an ATT dsl router that I'm connected to? |

The "Packet Loss" at that hop is phantom loss. The router is just not responding to all ICMP requests (pings). Your hop shows no loss; as such that shows that the "packet Loss" is not real at the hop before yours. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |
