[Rant] YouTube now forcing Google account linking.

Why? What a pain in the ass!

I want to keep my main Google account and my YouTube account separate (I have my reasons). As of today, you are FORCED to link your YouTube account to a Google account (it was optional prior to this).

This creates a problem, because signing in to YouTube sings me out of my other Google account, and vice versa. Now I have to keep signing in/out every time I switch web sites. Very infuriating!

On a side note, is there a way to make the Google cookie site-specific? As in, keep a different copy of the Google cookie for google.ca, and a different one for youtube.com, so I can be signed in to my main Google account on google.com while at the same time being signed in to YouTube using a different account?

try using different browsers for each session. There is a google lab for multiple logons, but I don't know how it would work in your application.

i guess if you use your browser's incognito mode (porn mode) for youtube, you can also achieve similar results.

I did the same to facebook, if not you will see something from fb on every site visited even if using just session cookies. Google as far as I know forced this a few months ago...the linking. I deleted that youtube account and signed up again with a non-google account. As of today I am still able to get in youtube under that account and still use session cookies. If you allow your computer to remember the sign-in and password it is not that hard to sign in and out IMO.

Maybe the ViewNoob account name has personalia s/he doesn't want exposed to Google users, or vice-versa.

OP has his/her reasons -- and if s/he wanted to share, s/he would have.

Okay but since they didn't shouldn't we jump to conclusions, and come up with our own ideas of why?

I just went to YOUTUBE and i clicked UPLOAD and it gave me 2 options.

1) Logging in with Google
2) LOGGING IN WITH MY YOUTUBE ACCOUNT

I do have a question though: How does this work??

When i goto it it says i havent watched anything! (Although i always delete cookies)

I did, but then it came up with a page giving me only two options:

1) link Google account

2) sign out

Probably because I used the same email address for Youtube and for a Google account.

Guess I'll delete this Youtube account and create a new one with an email address that is not associated to a Google account.

I use FireFox for my Gmail, Calendar, etc.
For YouTube I use IE to keep them separate.

For the curious, the reason I keep mine separate is that the YouTube is used for my hobby web site and I have an e-mail address dedicated for it.

My main google account is all my other "stuff".

I noticed this too. Good thing I don't really use my account.

Not when you have multiple accounts which you wish to keep separate.

Anyways, I ended up finding an acceptable solution using a second FireFox profile for YouTube to keep it separate. Same effect as using a different browser but without actually using different browsers.

My reason is I have three accounts, and I don't want to create three different gmail addresses, two of which I'd never use... highly annoying move on google's part. I also have to remember to switch out when using gmail, or else it won't send using my main email account..

bad google, bad..

O.o

I just use my Hotmail account that gets spam. I haven't had any problems, other than the occasional "do you want to sign up for a gmail account?" nagging message.
