SSD / WD Raptor 6GI have 2 HD's. one is SSD sata III and it is running at 6 gigs.
The other is the WD raptor which is also 6G rated. But its only running at 3G
Both are on sata III 6G cords and both plugged into the intel 6G socket on the MB.
Why cant I get the WD raptor to run at 6G? |

Other question would be did you plug it into a 3GB port and not a 6GB port? Easy to do. |

I seen somebody mention that you should make sure that 6GB drivers are loaded. I would think that since your SSD works at 6GB then that shouldn't be a problem.
Why not for S&G's give it a try reloading the drivers for the 6GB SATA ports. |

I emailed WD and got a response which I do not fully understand, maybee you can. "I will be more than happy to help you. Answering your question, you actually do not need Jumper on this drive so, if you have one setup in this drive, please remove it, also, bare in mind that 6 Gb/s is the top speed the drive can achieve, but this does not mean that it will continuously run at that speed because it varies depending on the use that you are giving to the drive at the moment."
I went into bios and sata 6 is definately enabled.
I use a program called Intel Rapid Storage Technology Which from what I can see gives info on each HD and certain things can be changed.
For my SSD it says "transfer rate 6Gb"
For the WD Raptor it says "transfer rate 3Gb"
So, i dont know what else to do.
I use the WD drive for programs and back ups (i partitioned it) |

Try having the raptor using the ssd sata connection. But don't unplug the sata on the mainboard.. just trying to check out the sata port. If your DVD rom drive is SATA, plug that in to last SATA port. |

Maybe read what is wrong with the chipset... it is sata 3 only and it has to do with data lose... not speed... |

Problem solved. I got in touch with Wd and one of their engineers actually called me on my cell phone.
he sent me a file which had to be run from a command prompt. He actually stayed on the phone when I did it.
Anyway, we ran the file but no luck, after we hung up I rebooted and there it was, 6Gb transfer rate. So the file worked.
I thanked him promptly and now both HD's are reporting 6GB's. |

Good to hear another success story. Do you mind sharing the "file"? |

Sorry, was working again. Just got back here. Sure, I will upload the file when I get on the other machine. (thats where it is)
Heres what I was told.(which makes no sense to me) They have shipped 90% of their Raptors with sata II (3G) capability. Reason bieng is Sata III is new technology and most people dont take advantage of it.
Now I dont agree with that thinking, but I aint Western Digital LOL Im just reporting what I was told.
All I know is it ran at 3G transfer rate until I applied this command prompt (dos) thing and now its definately at 6Gb transfer rate.
File to follow in an hour or so. |

Hum, you stated:

For the WD Raptor it says "transfer rate 3Gb"
Intel Rapid Storage Technology is the name of the driver package for your chipset and includes utilities to manage the drive status and RAID. Its reporting "transfer rate 6Gb" so what is your problem? |
