| faster 3G vs 1.5Mb commercial wi-fi we all know ATT recommends using your wi-fi to prevent counting against your limit. Not mentioned benefit is a higher response due to lower latency. The one (wi-fi) that has higher speeds will be usually only your own or sometimes workplace. If you go to gym, starbucks, mcdonalds, bookstore, it is usually limited to 1.5Mb. Not taking into account when you are out of range or many people connect to wi-fi and slow down, it seems to be 1.5MB wi-fi is enough just for smarphone.
Last time I was able to watch netflix at my gym (on eliptical machine) on wifi at only 1.3Mb fixed speed and pictures were sharp and high of quality.
When do you think I would need just for smartphone the data rate faster than 1.3mb? Nothing else comes to my mind except downloadable videos, music or applications.
At off-peak hours, I am able to achieve speed on my 3G close to 5Mb down, 1.5 up which is very good.

Seems like I'm paying twice for data and a bit of a headache caused by at&t.

And no one at home, unless they are out of dsl, cable options should use wireless card or tethering as the primary access. period. I am still talking about 3G, not 4G which before smartphone revolution was not primarly designed to handle a large number of traffic such as video streaming.
And you don't pay for ATT operated Wi-fis (formerly wayport) in local cafes or restaurants.
Besides this is why they offer microcells - but they still count against your data usage. And why att would want to upgrade network in a town that does not have many people somewhere in Montana? They are business, not USPS running at operating loss. This goes for any carrier.
Agree they should offer a plan larger than 2GB but they should not be required to offer unlimited. Wireless is a lot different from fixed broadband. Good riddance.

They're upgrading ALL of Alltel's towers to at&t's technology, which is not an easy effort in a state this geographically diverse (mountains, plains, and the general size of the state).
It's amazing that some people think Montana is stuck in the stone ages.. Think again. We're gaining in popularity with business and corporations. We're one of a handful of states that aren't in the red. Sure, we might not have FiOS (yet) but that doesn't mean we don't have several 40GbE backbones going through this state. It's just matter of time before we get 100mbps access. Heck, Cablevision took over Bresnan here, so it might come sooner.

according to cobrainsurancebenefits.org:
Currently the state of Montana does not offer any additional COBRA insurance benefits outside of those provided under the federal COBRA law. To learn more about federal COBRA insurance please visit our main COBRA insurance page.
There is no Mini-Cobra in your state. Which means if you employer had group health insurance but you worked for a company that had less than 20 people you are left with nothing.
Sure it is expensive. But its better than nothing when you are sick and need insurance but cant qualify for individual health plan or medicaid. Sure you have MCHIA but it won't duplicate your previous coverage. Thats here where I wonder whether people in Montana can still get similar or better coverage that they lost.
Keep in mind individual health insurance can reject you if you have some condition already. Even if it was diagnosed years ago.

RED INK. Look it up. By the way: »www.chicagoreader.com/TheBlog/ar···-ink-day »stlouis.cbslocal.com/2010/12/28/···red-ink/
Wow.. There's so many links just googling "Illinois" and "Red Ink" that it'd take months to post 'em all.
Care to explain that one?
BTW: Nice way to get off-topic. Why not explain your previous post about at&t not upgrading their towers in Montana? -- Bresnan 18M/1M MyWS[E5200@3.75GHz,4GB RAM,2x1TB HDDs,Win7] WifeWS[A64@2GHz,2GB RAM,120GB HDD,Win7] Router[2xP3@1GHz,512MB RAM,18GB HDD,SMC 8432BTA,2xDigital DE504,Compaq NC3131,Intel Pro/1000MT,IBM Gigabit Ethernet-SX,Allied Telesyn AT2560FX,Gentoo Linux]

I already mentioned why. Just because they say they do something, it does not mean that they will not change their minds.

Heh your arguments ...
People want to use all you can eat something even when they don't need to do it just because they pay for something while not really understanding everything. Regardless of whether they pay $1 million dollars or just 1 cent. Heh even if it was for free they would still whine about why it is limited or subject to throttling or overages. If not limited then why the network they use is down? Get a clue people. You don't leave lights on at night when you sleep or leave your stove on without nothing in it when you leave to watch TV, play video games or talk on phone.

You do not have unlimited number of dedicated individual channels that do not take space without affecting others. And it is mostly up to service providers what customers can do with their service they sell to them.
And it is dslreports forum. Everybody here can post opinions. That is what it is for.

| Re: faster 3G vs 1.5Mb commercial wi-fi sigh... you purchase service not product. It is not the same as when you buy your own car. Even when you buy it, you are subject to speed limit laws on roads for safety of others and you cannot use your car as always as you wish (for ex. drive 200 mph which would be max speed limit of your car on highways). And technically you can't when there is a lot of traffic ahead of you. You don't own roads do you? But you pay for them through tolls and taxes.
I won't even continue the debate with you because you don't get anything simple.
