Re: February 2011 Sprint 4G WiMax speeds Hmm, doesnt seem to be working.. i got some sick speeds just now
Usually when it goes over 10mbps it shoots back down to 8-10mbps. Seems like the throttling was a bit lagged there. |

TCP's congestion avoidance algorithm adjusts based on acknowledgments received and response time. What you're seeing is probably not throttling but rather TCP adjusting to changes in latency. On WiMax 1.0 systems, upstream and downstream share the same frequency but get different timeslots, so the greater the downstream rate the harder it is to get upstream timeslots granted which results in increased latency (and hence TCP backs off). In WiMax 1.5 these are separated into different frequencies for upstream and downstream.
My Clear "Series G" modem, Sprint Epic 4G, and Sierra Wireless "Overdrive" unit are all syncing at Wimax 1.5 (Rev2) here in Minneapolis.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to get to the stats on the USB devices like criggs has, but it's in the advanced diags on all the devices in my possession. |

 | Is your Overdrive unit with Clear or Sprint? It could just be my area, but I've never seen anything above ~7Mbps with my Sprint Overdrive. And how do you tell if your Overdrive unit is syncing at "Wimax 1.5"? |

| said by powerspec88:I've never seen anything above ~7Mbps with my Sprint Overdrive. That doesn't necessarily means anything is wrong. Remember that the service is only spec'd by Sprint (as you can see on their web site) for average speeds of 3 to 6 mbps. Basically anything above that is gravy (though they do say that one can occasionally expect to see bursts up to 10 mbps).
In my own case, my speed tests have averaged between 6 to 9. Here's what I'm getting today:

I too am very curious about how to know whether I'm on WiMax 1 or WiMax 1.5. One poster suggested a series of stats I should look for, but I've looked both in DEBUG and in WiMax Info on my Smartview and so far come up empty.
Based on Espaeth's speed when on 1.5, my guess is I'm still on 1, but I'm not sure. |

| Odd; I'm not seeing the graphic for either of the last two messages. The box shows up for the graphic, indicating there's supposed to be an image there, but then the box collapses with the image never loading.
In addition, dslreports.com is taking forever to load. Is the site in trouble?
Anyway, here's my speed today (assuming this even shows up!):

 | reply to criggs Here's tonight, no more rain, still in spec, but long latency. I noticed that Clear's coverage map no longer shows the hashed area in nearby neighborhoods for future coverage. Now they are just holes. Guess the funding is running low for them.

| Strictly speaking, that's not literally in spec, since Sprint promises minimum average upload speeds of .5, and you're getting .45. If you keeping getting those upload results, you mght want to make sure that you get it on the record with Sprint every week or so that that is the case; couldn't hurt.
Here's my speed today:

 | reply to criggs OK, I was already boiling hot because I cant get this sprint 4g wireless card to play netflix like the sales rep promised it would but Im even more upset now that I see these amazing speeds you all are getting. Please somebody help me! I live in the Bay Area and I always have 3-4 bars. This is what I am getting:

 | That is about the speed i used to get before i moved. If you read the entire forum you will see me complaining at the beginning of the month. You should still be able to stream netflix with that but not in the highest quality. If that speed remains consistent, i would advise maybe returning the card and getting a usb modem. I'm really not sure if its going to help.

 | reply to espaeth Good Speeds but I'm sure they are not WiMAX Rel 1.5
Also keep in mind both WiMAX 1.0 and Rel 1.5 are TDD. I think you are confusing FDD and TDD technology. |

 | reply to triptrailz Yea I have the usb modem from sprint. Here's what Im getting today, HORRIBLE. Is this normal? I am completely dumb when it comes to this stuff. Thanks guys and/or gals.
This is like dial up on the go... I have 3 days until my 30 days are up. |

| For whatever reason, the powers that be have decided that we are best off in this forum creating a new speed thread for every month, rather than having one permanent, sticky, thread. So I suggest you repost the above message in this month's 4G speed thread, located at »MARCH 2011 4G WiMax Speeds .
In addition, if you take a look at that thread, you will see my response to your message above. |
