Rocky, SB6120 and SB6121

Hi Rocky

I just cancel my Bell Fibe 25 and thinking to switch to cable 15/1 unlimited this month but i'm not sure what modem to buy SB6120 or SB6121. When will Teksavvy approve SB6121( new modem) in the list? i don't really want to buy 6120 then after 10 or 20 days, SB6121 get approved.

Right now, SB6120 is out of stock on Tek website. Will SB6121 be the gen modem?

TSI is at the mercy of the cable provider. TekSavvy West Cable has to use a sh*tty and expensive SB5102 instead of a DOCSIS 3.0 modem (SB6120) that Shaw users have.

I've been pissed about this.

If you have a source for SB6120, get it. There are practically no differences between the two models. And, even so, the performance differences will be less still.

are any of these MoCA compatible?

Since they both only have a single F-type connection point, I'd say that neither is MoCA compliant. I'm not sure that MoCA will actually bring anything useful to you, but I guess that is a whole other matter :P
(anybody have a really useful tutorial on MoCA for a power user? All I can find are press releases for corporate types and consumers)

Teksavvy told me they currently don't support SB6121 (still testing though).

They specifically mentioned MoCA in the SB6121, but not in the SB6120.

" Internal Low Pass Filter to eliminate MoCA signal overload" Not sure if it does anything else except to coexist.

I couldn't find a source to verify your MoCA statement. Where did you get that information?

I'm in for one if the SB6121 gets approved.

I am still unsure about it since it's not on the MoCA list of approved certified products

To repeat my thinking on the issue...

Here is the MoCA alliances home page:

Here is the MoCA alliances FAQ:

From that FAQ, "What is MoCA":

Established in January 2004, MoCA is an open, international technology standard body promoting networking of multiple streams of high definition video around the home using the existing coaxial cabling.
That means, a MoCA source device must have a coaxial F-type output jack. Since the 6121 only has one F-type connector, already used to get the internet signal into the thing, it can't be a MoCA source device.

Where do I have it wrong?

My previous post said:
>Not sure if it does anything else except to coexist.

Do not expect it do be part of the MoCA network.

MoCA itself:
# Operates with IPTV, CATV and DBS ( and in this case, your Modem)
# Easy to install -- no new wires required
# No interference or crosstalk from existing networks

I would probably want 2+, the only problem is I'm located in Ottawa... so I don't think that would work?

Also would the modem work with Cybersuck (until TSI comes to Ottawa)? Would Robbers allow me to register it on their network?

I might need to get one from you in a few days if you have any left.

Are there any retailers selling the 6120 or 6121 in Canada?

Everyone is saying no now. I just want a 6120

The only place I could find it online had a $45 shipping charge + duty.

Free trade indeed.

If the modem is not manufactured in NA then yes, duty is applicable. If it is however, as long as it's marked as such there should be no duty. If you get dinged for it, you can send the shipping details and proof of its origin and be reimbursed for the amount charged.
