Dell GX620 won't start, has blinking amber power buttonI have a Dell GX620 that's currently hooked up to my 40" Sony LCD TV. Last time I used, I remember shutting it down completely.
The other day, I wanted to use it, so I fired it up and even before I pressed the power button, I noticed the blinking amber light.
I tried to press it once and twice and the pc won't come on. Not even the power supply fan that you usually hear.
Aside from the blinking amber power button light, I noticed that the mobo still has LED light lit up.
I've read on Dell forums that these might be a bad power supply.
What do you guys think? I NEED HELP! |

blinking amber power light is a bad power supply. |

what I don't understand or boggles me is that the mobo still has the LED light lit up...
so, you think the power supply isn't just pumping out the required power? |

Amber blinking power light, led on mobo but power supply fan doesn't even spin up. It sounds like a dead psu is the most likely problem.
Yes a psu failure can manifest this way. Sometimes fans spin as well but the system won't power up. |

Did you look at the caps on the MOBO? These are also notorious for bad caps that pop and leak. |

correct Dell builds in circuitry to know what the outputs are and if it is over or under, it will not turn on giving you the blinking amber error code. |

The GX260 and / or GX280 had the bad caps.
amber light = most likely bad PSU.
Dell used prioprietary PSUs in the past but the 620 should use a standard (factor in cable lenghts) |

but a lot of times in the cases of the gx260/270/280 it would power on but have no video, or be a solid amber power light...
I've seen more bad PSU's in optiplex 620's than I can shake a fist at... and it seems that the LCD screens (15") that were ordered with them have so many backlight failures I'm glad we had 5 year warranties |

some people have replaced the OEM's with these replacements from OCZ... » www.pcpower.com/products ··· dex.html |
