Re: It's the first week in February, and internet is still slow.

Read the other threads I posted in. You should get a month or two free for the shoddy service from Knology.

I don't know if you're going to keep the Knology internet, but if you are, you better run that 2nd cable yourself. Mediacom contracts out their installs, and believe me, their work ain't pretty.

I hear you fellas...I just couldnt take it anymore. This has been ongoing...and this is the 3rd time I've had major issues with Knology. Once before, my connection would "stutter" for a couple of seconds every 3 to 4 minutes. That lasted for a few months. I'll let u guys know how everything goes. Thanks for all of the help guys...

Ah yes, I remember that issue. It was city wide, and yes, it lasted quite a while. It was very, very annoying. Then, without notice, it went away.

1 edit

Installation is set for tomorrow morning. After much deliberation, I've decided to disco my Knology services for now, as I don't want this installer destroying my house trying to run a line into it. I actually did a good bit of research. There are a few reps from Mediacom who post on their forum and help customers with issues. One gentleman took the time out to ping customer in my neighborhood. He also looked at utilization, saying that, in the last month, utilization peaked only three times, but still was right below the threshhold where it would start causing problems. Pings to these modems averaged under 20ms. So, I'm hoping for the best. I signed up for their 15/1 package, with phone and cable, which will run me about $125 throught the first year and $155 through the second year. They had a package that went up to 50/5, but it was pretty expensive. Right now, I'm paying Knology almost $180. I did make sure that they offer a 30 day money-back guarantee just in case things aren't what they seem. In the end, if I could get 10/1 with consistent pings on a regular basis, I'd be a happy camper!

All in all, I just felt that Knology dropped the ball. I've learned that the quality of your cable internet connection is heavily dependent on the amount of customers and traffic on a particular node. It seems to me that Knology was unwilling to invest in this, as I know it costs a log of money to run fiber to a new node. But, that seemed like the only thing that would have helped my issue. Aside from that, the constant calls, differing stories, and indefinite dates of fixes left me with no confidence in them or their product anymore.

For some strange reason, I felt a sort of "loyalty" to them, being that the whole time I've lived here since 07, I've always had services with them. However, when I actually sat down, and begin to think back, I realized that I have pretty much suffered a major service issue with them every year that usually has/had lasted for months. Once I realized this, it was easy for me to come to the conclusion.

Even now, I'm confident that d3 will relieve "some" of their congestion issues....I just wasn't willing to give them more months on top of the four months that I had allready waited.....

I'll let you guys know how things are with MediaCom. Again, thanks guys for doing what you could to teach/advise/help me!!

The pings to Atlanta sure are nice! Mediacom has a much more efficient path to Atlanta than we do.

I agree with you 100% on the "loyalty" factor, I'd be hesitant to leave being with a company as long as you have. But when Knology lets their network suffer that long, that terribly they're going to start losing customers. I'd leave for sure if they'd screw me like that!

I certainly hope Mediacom performs to you satisfaction, and again, your numbers are EXCELLENT. Better than mine can ever get.
