ping vs ping

Why does my wired PC consistently have a ping of 32 to 44 ms, and my wireless MBP consistently have a ping of 12 to 14 ms. And the downlood speed of the PC is about 8 Mbps, while the MBP is 25Mbps. They both go into the same router, the MBP ihas same numbers whether wired or wireless. My Zonealarm free renders the PC unpingable for a ping test, the instructions to allow pingablity don't translate to the new free version. Anyway, wondering how I should proceed for the diagnostic process. I went through the cleanup forum and got a clean checkup. Thank you.
