| Laptop Battery Does anyone have a good site to buy a replacement laptop battery from? eBay and amazon seem to sell a lot of "fake" replacement batteries that would work for a few months and then just completely die. The laptop I am talking about is hp zd8000.
I find this site »www.hp-laptop-batteries.net/pavi···ries.htm
but I do not know how reliable it is/ the price seems a bit steep. -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |

 | Did you actually buy a battery from eBay?
There are sellers that warrant the batteries they sell. -- Palin 2012! |

Batteries Plus may have a local store where you can purchase one locally. I don't know how you have to handle Sales Tax in the Brooklyn, NY area but for that reason alone you may get a better price overall by purchasing online. Anyway both have been good for me.

XT0RTS3x, Drugs, War join:2001-07-28 Edmonton, AB | $125 is a ripoff, no doubt about that. I can find a Dr. Battery replacement for $45. I've used Dr. Battery products before in various notebooks and they seem to do the job quite well. I've had a few DOA's from them, but they are excellent with warranty replacement. -- First the UBB, now let's wait for Bill C-32. |

I am thinking I may have to just scope around eBay. These batteries seem very pricey for a 5 year old laptop. -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |

You may get a particulalry good deal on a given battery, but frankly, with notebook batteries, you get what you pay for. $93.50 is by no means a bad price, in fact, much lower, and you are more likely than not getting an inferior product.
A $45 battery that either never works, or dies in 6 months, is a much worse deal than a $93 battery that actually does what it should.
You are right: There are plenty of horror stories about crappy replacement batteries, but that has little to do with Ebay, and much to do with the buyer not making a good, informed choice... -- Deeds, not words |

| reply to PeteC2 I'm in the same boat. Thinking of replacing my 5 year-old PA3420U-1BRS battery, which Toshiba no longer sells. I see online prices ranging from $23 (via Amazon, not eBay) to $131. How do I know which ones are good? What price point is too cheap and results in an inferior product? How do I know it won't set my house on fire? |

| reply to MuDvAyNe Well I went for one of the eBay ones and my god, it's pretty much DOA. The seller had great feedback, which is why I gave it a shot. I am hoping I can get an exchange. He made me look in BIOS for power settings and battery calibration but this old Windows XP laptop doesn't even have that. -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |

How do I know it won't set my house on fire? Good question, and there are few 100% foolproof choices, but look...what do you think the odds of a $23 battery being any good? Yes, you might luck out, but odds are that you are getting junk or worse. Batteries are not cheap. and to make any kind of profit (and why else would anybody sell one?), you have to look at a realistic price-point.
There are battery resellers that have a good reputation (the afore-mentioned Dr. Battery is a good example), some with pretty decent prices...but any "outstandingly low" prices that you are going to see, should give you pause. Outside of buying direct from the manufacturer however there is always a degree of risk.
It is a bear though: It is often hard to justify to oneself, spending upwards of $100 on a battery for a 4 or 5 year old (or older) notebook...but as I mentioned before, be realistic...just because it is an older laptop, the battery did not get any cheaper to make. -- Deeds, not words |

| I was going to create a histogram showing all the prices from $23 to $149 for the replacement battery, but there are just too many. Let's just say that you can pick any price point and there will be a battery for sale at that price.
So the question remains: What price point is too cheap and results in an inferior product? |

3 edits | Yes I do see the charge light on.
I actually have a dilemma now. I believe the battery has charged. I do not know if it has been to 100% but I have had it off the charger for close to a half hour now. It says battery is critical and that I should charge it before my data is lost. Once on charge it still sits at 0%. I was trying to drain the battery and see if it would charge up then.
edit : It basically died right after this post. I also forgot to mention that it would not boot up without the ac adapter plugged in.
edit 2 : Well I charged it for a while and took the plug off and the laptop shut off. The battery will not charge at all. I am at a loss. I feel like it would be very hard to get 2 DOA batteries but I do not understand why the battery won't charge.
I also notice in the battery section it still list the manufacturer of the battery as HP. It seems to not update there as well. Is my laptop just not capable of charging a battery anymore?
I have a friend with the same laptop, I am going to bring it to his house tomorrow and see if the battery will charge there. -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |
