These rumors were malarkey in 2007 and probably are once again. While at&t does have cash on hand for such an 'acquisition', I think many DISH customers would cancel the minute the deal closed.
Of course, such a deal would be subject to regulatory approval.
Let's just put the 'new' at&t back thru anti-trust hearings and declare them a monopoly once again, to be broken up by the government. I'd sure enjoy that
DISH Network under the 'new' at&t would be about as great as iPhone service in New York City and San Francisco!
back in the 90s, the old AT&T purchased NCR, only to sell the asset. WHY?
They knew, they'd have to change the company name to CR&P (Cash Registers & Phones)
Down with at&t! Death to ma' Bell!!
Ma-Bell Has been Dead for Several Years Now
MA-Bell has been dead for several years now. What is now AT&T is a former baby-bell.
It be nice before you criticize something you know what your talking about.

Re: again huh?
I have had AT&T for six years with no issues. My current phone is iPhone and I have no intentions of switching to Verizon (although I have Verizon for Mobile Broadband because they have it cheaper). I just don't wan't AT&T to acquire Dish Network and their horrible customer service because AT&T answers the phones stateside and Dish answers them in India. I just don't wan't AT&T to consolidate call centers and send them all to India. It's hard with my cognitive disability and it makes it functionally impossible to communicate with someone who speaks broken english. That is why I try to do business with companies that answer their phones in North America (USA and Canada). I left Verizon in 2004 for cellular service because of poor reception in my area (Springfield, MA) but it has improved dramatically and that is why I have their mobile broadband and I choose it for cost $35/3GB VZW vs $60/5GB or $35/200MB on AT&T. AT&T has very good reception in this area as well and they do up in the Southern Maine area as well too, which is why I choose AT&T which was then Cingular.

Re: Ma-Bell Has been Dead for Several Years Now
SBC destroyed AT&T AND BellSouth. They are concerned only with numbers. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES OR THEIR CUSTOMERS AT ALL. We are all just a number to management. Management fudges the numbers to make investors happy. Forget listening to your customers and meeting there concerns or demands.
They are destroying employee moral to the point that they could care less about the company and is customers. Employees are just trying to make a number to save their job.
