Laptop Suggestion

My Dell D610 and D620 have been with me for 2 masters programs but EOL is here. They are my work notebook, supplied for me. I would not buy one though.

So here is the deal. I will be starting a PhD program in September and need a laptop that actually belongs to me and my 5 year old Macbook Pro is just old by this point and has a dedicated task (Logic control for keys) at home.

I am looking for a great noteook. I7, 15 inch display (the best possible) and a long battery life. I liked a few Samsung products but their battery life has little to offer. I do not want to get another Mac if I do not have to, but they are well made IMO.

I am looking for a recommendation for a laptop that will have those properties, good build, stron proc, great screen, light and long battery life.

My budget is up to $1500, but if I can save money it would be great.

Thank you.

I'm currently using a work provided Latitude E6410. Battery lasts about 4 hours with an i5.

i7 will drain your battery, do you need that much power?

For home I have a power notebook that has a 15.6 inch screen and an i7. Battery lasts about 2 hours when I have power performance mode on. I think it's overkill.

This is close to the model I have. »www.powernotebooks.com/Sager-NP8···740.html

I need enough power to comfortably work with large data sets in SAS and STATA statistical software and because I will have limited funds I need a laptop that will stand the test of time for 4-5 years.

I run SAS datasets up to 20GB on my E6410 without any issues. Anything larger than that I use my desktop which is an i7.

Yeah I use my desktop for WHO data sets, some of them reach absurd sizes. It has a quad 9600 and 8GB of RAM.

I basically have a grant for this and I need it to last me the length of my doctoral program.

I have no issues with Dell, I have been using their business line for 7 years with no issues.

I just want something that will stand up to being dragged around and has some power, most of all I need battery life and proc.
