Re: WiMAX Plan 150; $40/month

my understanding from reading the "Clear" website is that WiMax 4G is unlimited - if the device switches to 3G - there is a 5G cap and I believe it was $.05 cents per MB. This policy may apply to Millenicom - with the over 5G being a termination warning -- just a thought.

In our area - Sprints 3G/4G combo is configured weird for coverage -- our residential area is about 1/4 mile outside of the 4G coverage -- the 4G coverage area being an open space protected reserve with no housing -- strange. But I guess it gives the 4G signal a free space to roam (pun intended).

Awesome news except the coverage ends about 10 miles outside of my area. I was really excited there for a minute.

The Millenicom WiMAX plan is just unlimited WiMAX and does not provide any 3G service.

Not true, there are NO overage fees or throttling on the WNW deal, if you exceed 20GB per month consistently they may ask you to go elsewhere!

So far it has been great for me, saved me a bundle over my old AT&T 5GB plan, and has worked everywhere I needed it to.

Count me as one happy camper!

i may try this...Virgin Mobile is becoming more and more unreasonable...have 3 USB modems already, what's one more?

LOL, I have a drawer full too, but you don't have to buy the WirelessNWifi modem, they supply it. I believe they have done away with contracted plans, they are all now month to month. There is a $100 deposit on the device, but they refund that when you return the modem.

As I understand it, you own the modem after 24 months of service, plus you get the deposit back.

Just to clarify that, the Wireless N Wifi deal is Unlimited 4G, with no throttling or overcharges on either 3G or 4G. The 20 GB "soft" cap is on the 3G side only.

My previous post made it sound like there was some sort of a limit on the 4G.

Thank you very much; I was COMPLETELY unaware of this. I had thought that they simply copied over the Sprint 3G 5 gig cap, seeing as how they're using the Sprint 3G network.

So I called them up just now to get a clarification. Here's the skinny.

Their contract DOES specify a 5 gig cap, just as I thought. However Aussie Girl is NOT completely in error, since they do not ENFORCE the 5 gig cap. Instead they make a subjective judgement based on your usage. If you go over 5 gigs in one month, but don't go over 5 gigs in the next, then they let you slide. If you persistently go over 5 gigs they will never throttle you, they will never hit you with overages; instead, they will KILL your account!

Has anyone tried the Millenicom WiMax plan? If so what speeds have you been getting? Also have you had any problems?

Wrong again, I just got off the phone with them and confirmed (yes they actually answer the phone on Saturday).

Yes the contract has the 5GB limit written in, it has to in order to satisfy the providers.

They draw the line at 15 to 20 GB, if you exceed that CONSISTENTLY they will ask you to shop elsewhere, there are no throttling or overage charges.

I used 14.56GB of 3G one month when traveling and did not get any kind of warning. My normal usage on the 3G is much less than that. I was told that I could have used 25GB that month without as issue, so long as my usage returns to a more reasonable level the following month.

Thank you for the correction.

Would the following be a correct summary then? Their contract DOES specify a 5 gig cap. They do not ENFORCE the 5 gig cap. Instead they make a subjective judgement based on your usage. Aussiegirl ~ not sure of your relationship with wirelessnwifi but you seem a strong proponent (even to the extent of going to another forum that has nothing to do with them). Here is my question: when their upstream gateway hammers them with overage fees and you start getting charged for each megabyte over 5 gigs will you let us know?

You bet I am a strong proponent Kolbitar, having been hammered numerous times by less than ethical deals, I will toot the horn for any of my mates that are doing it right!

I wasn't the one to bring up Wireless 'N' WiFi on a forum that "has nothing to do with them", you or Criggs did. I just shared a bit of knowledge I happen to have when you misrepresented the facts.

I will absolutely be the first to scream bloody murder if the '»www.wirelessnwifi.com/Unlimited4G' deal changes, any overages or throttling, just like I did with AT&T, but I doubt that it will in the near future.

Come to think of it Kolbitar, what is your relationship with Mellinicom? Looks like you are a pretty stout defender of theirs, in fact it looks like virtually every post of yours in the last 180 days is in defense of Mcom. Even to the point of knowing that "Nope. No outage. Both of their call centers were open all day." See: '»Millenicom Outage ???????' How exactly would you know that, just because you are in Portland?

If you work for them, I am thinking that might be something that ought to be disclosed here.

No that would not be correct. If you exceed 15 GB one month we will advise you that it is a problem, if you exceed 15GB the next month we will ask you to get service elsewhere.

It has happened I believe four times since we started the program last August.

The first person got a second modem and a router to spread the usage over 2 of our devices and is purring along happily.

The second was a new business waiting for the phone company to install a T-1, which has now happened, and the customer now uses her modem from us when she is away from the office, instead of running the entire office on it.

The third was a young man hosting hobby websites in his basement, as the site traffic grew so did his bandwidth. He had no hardwire options or WISP's available. We put him in touch with a hosting company, the number of sites he hosts has grown from 3 to 8. His sites run faster, visitors are happier, he has no server maintenance and is prospering. His usage is now in a managable 8-12GB per month range.

Number four we were not able to help, so he returned the modem, made other arrangements, and we parted friends.

We have not yet had to KILL anyones account!

Thank you for giving us the straight scoop; appreciated.

I gather you work for this company. Have you touched base with the moderators about the possibility of having a forum started here for Wireless 'N' WiFi, in the same way that Millenicom has a forum here? Might be helpful.

And I don't know how much feedback you've been getting from folks about this, but I, for one, would be really interested in any Verizon LTE products you might choose to roll out. It is superior technologically to my Sprint WiMax apparently, and if I could get a good deal on LTE (there's NO good deal available at the moment!) I would look with great interest at it. Sprint's/Clearwire's 1 mbps cap on uploads is very uncomfortable, and I would be happy to switch if I could make it work financially.

LTE would be sweet, but I wouldn't expect to see any resellers soon, Verizon knows they have a good thing going!

I can't afford LTE as it is now, I would be paying $80 for 10GB instead of $59 for unlimited. If it runs a lot faster, I would likely use way more bandwidth than I can afford!

Yes, that's exactly why I would never consider any of the LTE plans out there at the moment, which is why I'm hoping that Millenicom or Wireless 'N' WiFi will come to the rescue soon.

Well don't hold your breath, it is not likely that there will be much LTE reselling this year. Verizon is awfully proud of their pricing model, and are not likely to let anyone else mess it up.

As they get the system built out a little more, and have need for the additional revenue they will eventually open up the wholesale side.

Thank you for the assessment. That means I should figure on sticking with the Sprint WiMax for a while, I guess.
