Sip Credentials now available for everyone

We are testing out offering Free Sip Credentials on a trial basis to all of our clients.

Log into my account ---> Click on Sip Credentials ---> Activate.

We strongly suggest continuing to use auto provisioning for any device for which auto provisioning is supported.

Now for the legalese
Phone Power will not offer any technical support for your hand-configured device(s) and applications using SIP Credentials. Phone Power will continue to offer normal support for all auto-provisioning devices, including Phone Power supplied phone adapters, soft-phones, zippy-phones, BYOD devices that use Phone Power's auto provisioning system.

You will need to reboot all phone power devices after activating (or disabling the sip credential option). Your credentials will change everytime you activate/de-activate the service so i suggest either leaving it on or off...

Question: I am on the Capricorn network and by enabling SIP Credentials it moves me to the other network. I have a linksys modem that I first got from you way back. If I enable the service will my linksys move over as well?

I notice your Excellent International rates to a specific country; does the availability of the SIP Credentials mean we will be able to open up an PAYG account for outgoing ONLY (without a DID) with Phone Power?

If so, if I have one of your Zippy Travel Adapter(zippy-phone), will I be able to download and use the related soft-phone with the Zippy Travel Adapter?

Nope...PhonePower does not do PAYG...Never has!

Was in live chat for a separate issue...and the answer from tech support is "Yes" it will move the Linksys over.

FYI if you enable SIP credentials you are essentially on your own and your device(s) on the line(s) on which SIP credentials are Enabled are are no longer managed by PhonePower. So be aware you will need to re-enter the SIP information again into said device(s). I just found this out by the way of hard Knox, lol.

That should not be the case. Your credentials do change, but if you reboot the PP-supplied or existing BYOD devices, they should pull provisioning files with the new credentials and start working again. On Grandstream devices, this can take a few minutes.

Uh, yeah. OK. Yeah, I have a GV number too. But Skype has its uses as well. It's just got one less use now.

My grandstream reconnected after reboot just fine, btw.

It should move with no problems automatically. You will need to reboot once you activate the credentials.

Yes, I just activated to the new network and rebooted all seems ok.

One more question: Does this mean I can use any ATA modem with your service?

Yes, keep in mind that you are limited to 3 registrations and 2 calls.

True...but when I only mentioned if a person enables SIP credentials they will in fact have to enter the credentials manually...however you are right...if you do disable and reboot it will re-provision with new ones from the provisioning files. Thanks for adding to my answer.

No, I meant that if you enable and reboot, the Grandstream should pull a provisioning file with the same SIP password as given to the user. If you disable and reboot, you should be back to the original (secret) credentials.

What benefits beside "normal support" does auto provisioning provide? With the sip creds you can try out various user agents to track down a problem. I'm not a fan of secret credentials because you can't know how the settings are configured. Things like port gain, ring voltage, dtmf, echo cancellation etc that can work great with one phone and lousy with another.

Ease of support and a turn key setup for the general public. Believe it or not MOST of our customers just want reliable phone service at an affordable price and don't care to tinker.
