Hi BHNtechXpert.

Most of us have been on the programming guide rolled out in September for about 5 months now. Has any of our feedback about it been helpful in getting BH to work to improve it? From the comments posted here and on other forums it seems a good percentage of customers don't care for it and have requested changes, but we haven't heard or seen anything come of it so far. Can we look forward to a new and improved guide in the near future or are we pretty much stuck with this one for a while?

Thanks,
Wesley

I imagine this has already been suggested before but I would like to see the DVR recordings list to be nested/tree-like, where I see one listing for, say, Seinfeld, click on it then that tree expands to show all Seinfeld listings (see DirecTV). Scrolling endlessly through multiple recordings of single shows is tiring.

Also, a minor enhancement, in Whole House DVR list with multiple WH DVRs I'd like to be able to tell which DVR recorded a program in the list.

And another DirecTV feature I liked was after watching a recorded program from the DVR list, it would return me to the list and not back to live broadcast. An option for this would be good.

Wesley,

Thanks for you input and yes suggestions here are read and considered all the time. Improvements to the guide and user interface are a never ending process. As to when the next update will roll out I don't have that information quite yet. I will update as needed.

Time Warner just launched a TV app for Roku. I would love a BH app for Roku! Just suggesting .

Man... if I was to be CEO...

First: Implement captions for every channel, and/or call in the FCC if the content provider is not providing captions as required by the FCC.

Second: Instead of dealing with STBs all the time, I'd offer the option of having TiVo or Roku. In fact, I'd replace ALL the STBs with these two.

But that may not be an easy solution to implement.

Moving on:

I'd work with QuadraNet (they have ridiculously awesome peering so far.) for their peering. I'd want to do everything I could to gain access to their peering.

I would also work on expanding BHN in other regions, particularly Comcast-based regions.

I would also implement COE policy. Limit the products to at least two supported products. Either that, or at least offer the option to the customer to buy BHN-owned equipment from BHN and still receive support for said equipment since it was purhcased from BHN.

I would also enable static IPs on COE equipment, either on res or biz, doesn't matter to me.

I'd also research whether or not the last and middle mile is on fiber. If not, implement fiber all the way to the last mile, if possible. All the way down to FTTC, if must be. (If this is already the case, whoops.)

From that point on, I'd also replace all customer wiring, either at some cost to customer, or at cost to BHN. Preferably at some cost to customer. (Perhaps a low monthly cost until BHN has reaped back the cost of replacing the often-times old wiring with brand-new wiring?)

For deaf and HOH customers, I'd also include Sorenson's VRI service so that customers actually visiting the local offices in well-known heavily populated deaf cities... (Bakersfield is one, as is LA, and perhaps a few other cities, I'd have to check BHN coverage regions for this.)... can actually get their services taken care of in person without any further frustration.

In fact, were I not CEO, I'd work towards insisting that BHN set up VRI with SorensonVRS for Bakersfield's offices.

I would like higher upload speeds. I have Comcast at home and BH at my office. Fastest speeds for both and have a 20Mbps upload on my home connection and a 6Mbps at my office.

I'd like to request that a mode of operation that formerly was "in" the STBs be restored...

Sometime back--quite a long time back now--the box was ALWAYS laying down on the disk (current program only), the last two channels tuned, even when off.

This enabled the following...if you turned on the TV, liked the show in progress, you could watch it from the beginning because it was on the disk from the beginning, even if the TV and/or box was off.

If you did LAST on the remote and liked that show too, you could select record, and the entire show from its beginning was saved. Not now.

At one of the sfw updates, this was removed. It was ever so handy, but now is gone--a reduction in service capability.

This has been requested multiple times however there was a very good technical reason for this that if memory serves me had to do with drive wear...it was simply eating the drives alive (and there is no way around that). I'll do some more digging however.

Startover doesn't require a DVR. Any of our boxes will do it on programming that is Startover capable.

I would like it if I could use Music Choice (from the Road Runner site) on Firefox. I hate having to use IE just to rock out at my computer . I wish I could also share what station I'm listening to on Facebook.

On a Motorola STB, I'd like to be able to switch closed captions on and off without having to go into the setup menu each time.

@bhn.net

I want the ability to get international programming (TV Japan) with a cable card device (TiVo).
I was told by Brighthouse reps that it can't be done but none of them could tell me why.
