Ice storm???

Started yesterday afternoon... about a half inch of snow, then just after dark it turned to sleet, followed by freezing rain overnight. Result? About an inch of ice, covering everything. Fortnately, there was a layer of snow under the ice, so it does peel off somewhat readily. Took me about 15 minutes just to clear the windshield of my truck with the defroster running full blast. Streets are frozen slush. Like driving down a rutted dirt road. Main roads are clear, but residential streets are a mess. Did I say I'm really getting tired of this crap this year???

We missed that - we had some sleet but nothing large. Our corp headquarters is in Potage, MI - they have about 1/3rd power to the building even though we have dual power connections due to the ice storm.

All of our support servers are down - they got email up but not time reporting (time has to be submitted by today at noon normally).

Same here...plenty of outages around Lorain, but not me
altho the wind was gusty at times, had the white thingy from side of house come off - still have power - called First Energy, they came out, said my responsibility, called electrician...they fixed what they could, but couldn't pull more line to house cuz too much ice weight on lines. Calls First Energy back, told Rep what procedures I followed also stating the electrician said that the company should come out to raise the line, check line, etc. and maybe replace from house to pole (lines cross from house to pole on an angle across the street)...just might be too long. Son states that the line is about 12' above the street...only on my side. I'm $120 poorer, but I do have power !

First Energy showed up with 2 trucks within 20 minutes orso. They tightened line from my house...line is now 18' above the street ! just after they started to fix the line, the white crap started to come down really fast.
Snow is now maybe 3" and still coming.

We ended up with about 4" (on top of the ice). Went out this morning and cleaned the drives but the ice layer didn't want to budge. Bright sunshine and clear skies for now... maybe, it'll loosen the ice up so I can get it all off. I have a scraper, but I don't feel like doing the entire drive with it. No wind to speak of or it would be pretty cold out there today. I think it was about 15°F when I did the drives. No problems with power... we have all underground utilities, but several trees are missing some fairly large branches. Neighbor's pine trees took a pretty good beating. At least, the ground isn't movin' under our feet.

Did I say I'm starting to get real tired of this this year. I like the change in seasons, but this is gettin' ridiculous. C'mon springtime!!!

All things considered, it really is quite pretty out there, now. The sun is sparkling through the ice on all the branches, everything is clean and white, and the sky is a clear azure blue.

We have about 4" as well with another 2 inches of ice under everything. This winter hasn't been that bad at all. We've hardly received any snow.

In reality, we've had only one real snow "storm" that dropped about 11" on us awhile back. Oh, we've had snows... usually 3-5" at a time, but I don't really consider them true "snow storms". To me, there's a huge difference between a snow fall and a snow storm. The problem is that for awhile we seemed to get 3-5" about every three days!!! As I look out my window right now, it almost appears as if the trees are made of glass. Every limb on every tree looks like a crystal curio from some antique shop.

Son came over this morning about 8 or around that time. Got my snowthrower out of the garage and did the driveway, sidewalks...everywhere. He said I had about 5" of snow...at his place in Amherst he had about 4".
There is plenty of ice, about 2", on the streets around here. Sure, the city plowed, in their own way, but when I see Fedex trucks spinning the tires, going down the street, I know that the streets are good enough to play ice hockey games on.
I'm also tired of this weather.
