The last time I went in Wal-mart, milk was $3.17, up from $2.89 a month ago, that's nearly 10% for the math impaired.
The receipt had one of those surveys on it, so I filled it out. Several of the questions had to do with my opinion of Dollar Tree etc. My opinion is that those places are the bottom of the barrel; they make Wal-mart look good. -- How fortunate for government that people don't think. - Adolf Hitler |

 | reply to lolwhat As the Dollar loses international status, import prices will soar. Thus Wal-Mart will either have to completely revamp their business model or go the way of Borders Books, Caldors, Bradlees, Jenung's, Gimbals, etc. |

| reply to lolwhat The animosity felt towards Walmart is befuddling. We already have to import labor from the Caribbean to work on farms in the Northwest because no Americans will take the jobs. Now people want Walmart to go away, a huge employer of cheap, unskilled labor. I think class warfare/hatred is blinding some of you.
My wife and I do most of our food/household goods shopping at Wal Mart. Cheap prices and always packed. Lots of immigrant families shop there (Indian/Paki, Hispanic, Middle Eastern) and no doubt makes their money stretch a little further. -- Will WWIII start today? |

 | Business models come and go. If they don't change and modify with the times, they mostly go. A few good examples are Sears-Robuck/ Mongomery-Wards, Kresge (K-Mart)/Woolworth. In both instances, the first redefined itself and the second didn't. The fact that Sears still exists is a little befuddling to me. The worlds largest catalog (home based) sales company, shut down their catalog sales/distribution/warehousing system about two years before internet sales started to climb. All they needed to do was junk the telephone book sized catalog and open a website. They completely missed a once in a century advantage that they had over Amazon and every other online sales organization. |

| reply to Midgard Walmart is known to f**k over their employees as well as their customers. Don't get injured at Walmart. They will deny liability and make it hell for a lawyer to fight them. -- A citizen of The United States of Amnesia. How quickly we forget. |

They $%^# over the community where they are located as well. They build as cheap as possible, lease the land, then when the building needs serious repairs they just close it down and build a new one somewhere else leaving the old building there to rot as an eye sore.
They also $%#^ their vendors by dictating the price of the items they buy. Other vendors now have to eat the lost fees so Walmart directly kills the little guys and puts people out on the streets. Not a business I want my money going too. I'd rather pay China then Walmart. |

| reply to lolwhat I used to be a big Wal-mart shopper, but the local grocers now may have higher prices, but they make up for that with the various "bonus card" rewards. I end up with a cheaper bill at the end of the day and with better quality stuff. The produce at Wal-mart is horrible... real horrible. The regional grocer here has some great stuff and I enjoy their store. I still go to wal-mart on occasion for things I may not find elsewhere, but I don't go weekly anymore.
I imagine other people do the same. A decade ago, I refused to go anywhere else. Wal-mart was the best. Their prices really were the lowest and the quality wasn't as bad as it is now. -- A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. |

 | reply to lolwhat In the mid-west, (Michigan, Ohio, etc) we have Meijer stores. It was originally Meijer Thrifty Acres, in the '30s. They fit the Walmart footprint, with everything except automotive service. Being regional, they seem to be more community conscious than Walmart is. We shop both, but Meijer's gets the majority of our business. Visit them here : »www.meijer.com/ |

| I hope the ones that are legit get through and win against this corporate monster called Walmart. My wife was injured at Walmart last year and they were ice cold to her and denied any liability.
My wife ran into 2 Walmart employees at her physical therapist's office who were hurt while on the job. They confirmed that Walmart is screwing them over BIG TIME. Being an employee does not have any bearing on Walmart doing right by you.
In a nutshell, you better hope that you can find a lawyer who would be willing to take up your case against this corporate monster. So far, we had 2 lawyers who gave up mighty fast. Walmart has the $$$$ to wait us out and those two law firms probably didn't see a good ROI. -- A citizen of The United States of Amnesia. How quickly we forget. |
