 | reply to DSL987 This is nothing new. California has been chasing manufacturing jobs out of the state for over 30 years. They encourage technological innovation and then regulate the production of that technology to the extent that it is forced to leave the state. |

| reply to horsemouth That's great for Canada! Jobs and long term 20 year contract energy merchandising like oil. Not a dumb deal as Canada makes money from Kali liberalism.
Kalifornians who can, should be thinking of moving to Canada.
I'm trying to sell a piece of commercial zoned property in California near the state line. The agent said if we could move the state line and suddenly be in NV all of us would become rich. -- I was Anti-Obama before it was cool! Will Rodgers never met Harry Reid.. |

| Among a national business poll California ranks dead last in business opportunities of all the states at # 51.. Next is NY, MI, NJ, MA.
Quote; The leadership of California has done everything in its power to kill manufacturing jobs in this state, observed another CEO. As I stated at our annual meeting, if we could grow our crops in Reno, we would move our plants tomorrow.
How is it that the nations most populous state at 37 million, one that is the worldÕs eighth-largest economy and the countrys richest and most diverse agricultural producer, a state that had the fastest growth rate in the 1950s and 1960s during the tenures of Democratic Governor Pat Brown and Republican Governors Earl Warren and Ronald Reagan, should become the Venezuela of North America? -- I was Anti-Obama before it was cool! | A few days ago, I saw a Dan Rather Reports on the aerospace industry of Southern California. There was a lot of talk about decades ago, tens of thousands were employed, during WW II plane construction was a 24/7 operation.
At no point were hostile attitudes toward industry mentioned. Dan was sort of reporting on the poor persecuted union workers, without any review of state or even national policy toward manufacturing.
Not one of the union workers interviewed had any introspection about government or union policies. Instead all problems were blamed on the greed of Boeing management.
I didn't doubt Boeing was guilty of some nasty stuff, but to not even investigate government or union policies that may have contributed seemed dishonest to me.
Looking for scapegoats is an indication of failure. The only thing government seems to have done to protect workers at Boeing in southern California is to steer unnecessary plane construction their way.
Until the press can fully report on all the issues, without protection the various government and union actors, we'll never really be able to rationally change the status quo imo. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

OmegaDisplaced OhioanPremium join:2002-07-30 Cheyenne, WY | reply to DSL987 California just keeps on digging itself into a deeper and deeper hole. All the jobs will be moving to the mountain west. Cheap land, low cost of living, more business-friendly states.
I lived in California for 9 months, that was enough for me. Nice place to visit, horrible place to live. -- What smells like blue? |

 | said by Omega:I lived in California for 9 months, that was enough for me. Nice place to visit, horrible place to live. One of California's problems is that it is just too big and diversified. It covers 2/3rds of the west coast. Three or four major population centers (which are populated by kooks) control the entire state, which is mostly rural and agricultural. I lived there from 1956 to 1962 and then 1968 to 1985. I was last there in 1999 and it was like visiting a foreign country. |
