 | I'm in Fountain City and have been with Knology for seven or eight years, ever since my neighbor's trees started blocking Dish. I still miss satellite programming.
Internet service has generally been good over the years, though there have been extended periods of intermittent service. It can be frustrating talking to support -- sometimes they will deny that there are any problems and other times you'll get someone honest on the line who tell you what is going on. The techs they send out have been mostly informed and straightforward. Last summer I was having a serious spell of intermittent downtime and a tech came out and told me they had been trying to isolate a problem in Fountain City for a couple of weeks -- the phone tech had told me that there were no other complaints and that it must be in my personal setup (there must be a Phone Tech University "PTU" somewhere that teaches them all how to say that).
For the last two months I've been down at night and on weekends a lot. Sometimes up to a couple of hours at a time, but it's getting better.
If you sign up, check regularly for price changes. Sometime prices go down, but sometimes they don't tell you about that unless you're fairly aggressive. During this latest series out outages I got one of the honest phone techs late at night and she said that there were several reports of problems and they were working on it and it should be up in an hour - it was. I also asked her about prices, since mine have been rising pretty high lately. She said that there had been some reductions in the 2011 plan and I could get about $70 off my monthly bill, but I should call next day because their servers were about to reset.
I call the next day and the conversation went about like this:
Me: I'm checking to see if I can save any money by changing plans. Phone: Um, let me see. Nope, unless you want to drop some premium channels. Me: Well, a phone tech told me last night that the 2011 plans were cheaper. Phone: They told you that! Um, well you ARE on an older plan. So, yeah, I guess you could save about $65 or $70. Me: Well, I want to change plans, then. Phone: OK, but I can't do it right now, because the tech changed something last night and I can't do it now, but I'll do it tomorrow. Me: OK, do it. Hang up.
I assume that the late night tech who told me about the price break was probably beaten. |

·Knology
| reply to Liam I am in the North Area of Knoxville myself and am fairly pleased with Knology, Its a good value IMO as I have Phone, Internet, Cable TV and I am locked in for 3 years for $89.00 month comes to about $113.00 with Taxes and fees.
I game online and have no trouble finding decent servers with low latency and ping!
I occasionally have to reboot router and get an occasional disconnect, but overall value is great.

Liam join:2011-03-01 Knoxville, TN | Thank you for the info, but that speedtest made me definitely not want Knology, I am paying 135 a month and get twice that speed with Comcast both up and down. I have talked to a few people, one being my neighbor who has Knology, and they say speed is terrible, they have to fight with billing every month, and internet goes up and down. I don't think I will take a chance and will wait until Uverse is in my neighborhood.
