Rift FAQ/Gameplay

Combat Parsing part 1~
I walked into the Realm of the Fae instance and was blown away at how amazing it looked. It was actually interesting, each boss hard their own mechanics which personally I was not expecting from the first bosses in the first instance of the game. The second time I walked in though I felt like something was missing, I had already learned of the encounters, gotten loot from the bosses, done the quests, so why would I run again? I knew what I was missing, a damage meter. Something to help me personally top my own best dps from one pull to the next.

I looked into the forums and I heard tons of posts of people who do and don't want damage meters. People who want and don't want addons. People who thought addons were aloud and people who thought addons weren't aloud. It was very hard to find a useful post about how to find out what my dps was. Eventually I came by a post of someone asking my very question and with my luck someone had replied with one brief sentence. Use Rift combat parser. Well, what is it? Where can I get it? How does it work? I have to say it wasn't easy to figure all of this out. I could find no step-by-step guide on how to make this work and because of it spent numerous amounts of time just trying to get the stupid thing to work. So for all who read this, here is my step-by-step guide on how to make this work.

1. Downloading the parser. I found the parser at »www.riftjunkies.com/combat-parser/. It showed the features to the program and I thought it would just be a quick download, run, then I'd be playing with my new combat parser. If only I knew how wrong I was. First before you can download it though you have to register for the website. While this is annoying you should be used to it by now as almost anything you do online nowadays requires you to sign up or register for something before you can do anything. By my delight I didn't have to go confirm it on my email which is something I hate having to do whenever I sign up for anything.

2. When it's done downloading all you have to do is run the program and possibly have to do a small update. After that the parser should open up and be ready to use. You should see lots of options, boxes with check marks, etc. I'll get to those eventually but for now just go on to step 3.

3. Log on to Rift, when you are actually in the game type /combatlog
If you did it properly you should get some white text saying Combat Logging Enabled. It will create a Combatlog.txt file in your Rift folder which you will need to start your parsing.

4. Go back to the parser now and either hit the button that says Start Parsing or go up to the menu bar, hit menu and then hit Set Log File. Go inside of your Rift folder and you should find CombatLog.txt and Set your parser to it.

6. If you were like me, I closed my Rift while I was doing all of this, so re-open Rift, if you still have Rift open then just ignore that. Now that your parser is all set up and ready to go in the future all you should have to do is whenever you log in to the game and you want to use the parser you will have to type in /combatlog every single time. If you don't the parser will not work.

7. After that you can change your boxes around to have it show what you want it to show. Go attack something and have fun recording your data!

Crafting 101
There isn't much new that can be said about crafting that hasn't been said somewhere else, I wanted to make a guide that would explain everything though. If I am missing anything about crafting in this guide please leave a comment and I will add it.

In Rift you can have a total of three professions, there are three gathering professions and six crafting professions. You can unlearn a profession at any time by going to any crafting trainer and selecting I'd like unlearn a skill...

You can get the professions at either your main city, Meridian or Sanctuary, or at these locations.
For the Guardians you can get them at the Argent Glade,
For the Defiants it is a little bit more confusing you can get some of them at the King's Retreat, and some at the Kelari Refuge
You can get the gathering professions a bit earlier but if you want all of the professions you would have to go to these locations.

Gathering Professions: Butchering, Foraging and Mining.

Butchering: With the butchering profession you will be getting leathers/hides off of beasts that have been killed.

Foraging: With the foraging profession you will be getting herbs/wood from nodes. If you use the skill Track Wood and Track Plants you will be able to see where they are on your mini map.

Mining: With the mining profession you will be gathering metals from nodes. If you use the skills Track Ore you will be able to see where they are on your mini map.

Crafting Professions: Apothecary, Artificer, Armorsmith, Runecrafter, Outfitter, Weaponsmith.

Apothecary: With the apothecary profession you will be making different potions using plants gained from the foraging profession and sometimes items gained from the butchering profession. The apothecary profession requires a Laboratory to make items.

Artificier: With the artificer profession you will be making different wands, totems, rings and necklaces with ores, and items gained from mining and wood gained from the foraging profession. The artificer profession requires a Workbench to make items.
Sometimes when mining you will get containers that when opened will give you different stones which are used in the artificer profession.

With the artificer profession you will also get a skill called Salvage Accessories that will allow you to break your rings and necklaces into matierials that you can use to make more accessories.

Armorsmith: With the armorsmith profession you will be making different armors using ores gained from the mining profession, leather gained from the butchering profession and cloths gained from killing enemies. The armorsmith profession requires a Forge to make armor.
With the armorsmith profession you will also get a skill called Salvage Armor that will allow you to break your armor into materials that you can use to make more armor.

Runecrafter: With the runecrafter profession you will be making different runes that you can use to increase the stats on your armors and weapons. You get the materials by using the runebreak skill that allows you to break your equipment into magical materials used to make runes. The runecrafter profession requires a Workbench to make runes.

Adding Dim Deft Rune to my armor will add 2 dexterity to my armor which when applied will look like this.

If I want to add another rune to the same item, it will ask me to replace my old one.

Outfitter: With the outfitter profession you will be making different armors using leather gained from the butchering profession and cloths gained from killing enemies. The outfitter profession requires a Loom to make items.

Weaponsmith: With the weaponsmith profession you will be making different weapons using ores gained from the mining profession, and wood gained from the foraging progession. The weaponsmith profession requires a Forge to make some items and a Work Bench to make others.
With the weaponsmith profession you will also get a skill called Salvage Weapons that will allow you to break your weapons into materials that you can use to make more weapons.

Crafting areas: Loom, Forge, Workbench, Laboratory

There are four places where you can craft items and each profession needs you to be at one of the four places. To craft you need to be at either a Loom, a Forge, a Workbench or a Laboratory.

Loom: Butchering, Outfitter

Forge: Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Mining

Workbench: Runecrafter, Artificer, Foraging, Weaponsmithing

Laboratory: Apothecary

How to craft:

Once you have your crafting profession, your gathering professions, some materials what do you do next?

This is what the crafting window looks like, you can select the recipe that you want to make and it will show the ingredients needed, how many that you can make with the materials you have, what skill level you are (as you can see my character is a Novice apothecary, skill level 2 out of 75.) It will show you that what area you need to be crafting in and what you will make. At the bottom you can choose to craft all which will craft as many as you have the materials for, or you can click the over arrows to select how many you would like to make and then hit craft. As you can see there is a blank window with the words augmentation above it. If it is grey like it is in the picture then you cannot augment the item you are trying to make.

Some recipes can be augmented though by adding a planar augment into the augmentation box. Each planar augment has it's own effects that will be added to the item when crafted.

You can get planar augments a few ways, the easiest ways would be from doing rifts or invasions. They can either be obtained randomly during rifts and invasions or you can spend your planarite obtained from them on boxes with random planar augments in them.

When opening the novice augment box I bought to test it I got this in it.

Crafting Dailies:
To get certain recipes you have to buy them from special vendors that will only sell the patterns for special marks gained from doing crafting dailies that can be done once per day, per profession. That means if you have three crafting professions you could do three crafting dailies per day. If you only have one crafting profession and two gathering professions you can only do one per day. You can find your daily crafting quest giver in either of your main towns. (Sanctuary or Meridian)

In this picture I have three crafting professions which means I can do three work orders.
The work orders will tell you to go make a few of whatever your profession normally makes and give you a few tokens and a little supply bag with a few materials in it.

After you make the items that you are requested to make they will tell you to deliver them to either the college or the kings retreat to get your marks and your supply bag. Because of this I recommend trying to get a mount before doing too many of these, it is a decently far walk to each of these places. As you level up your crafting you will get newer daily quests with better rewards which will ask you to go to different areas other then the college of the kings retreat.

Once you get enough artisans tokens you can spend them on recipes from the special merchants which you can use to make new items that couldn't be made without buying these recipes.

Last of all eventually you will hit skill level 75 and you will need to train your profession so that you can get it up any higher. To get it higher you will need to go to your profession trainer in your main city. You will need to train every 75 skill levels so don't forget to pay attention to your skill level.

Finishing Comments: Phew my longest guide yet is finally over. It took a few days and four hours just to write all of it up and edit the screenshots and thats not including taking all of the screenshots and gathering all of the materials, figuring out where to get everything and test everything so that is why I took so long getting this guide out. Over the next little while I will be doing just a few mini helpful guides before doing another huge long project guide like this one. I only used 26 screenshots in this guide but that doesn't mean I only took 26 screenshots. I had to choose which were helpful etc and edit them and it took awhile so I'm going to do a few mini guides as a bit of a break for a couple of days. If you want to know what I am up to, or what I am thinking of creating next, or just to say hi add me on twitter, my twitter name is MikuRift. Thank you all for reading and if you have any comments dont be afraid to leave some in the comment section below!

The "Things I wish I had known sooner" thread...
* When you get a larger bag, you can drag it over the smaller bag and it will replace it and move all the items from the small bag into the larger bag.

* Under Setting->Interface are NUMEROUS checkbox's that can totally change how the game plays for you, including things like targeting my target and showing actualy health numbers in bars, etc

* You cannot chain cast via a single macro, however you can put multiple abilities in a macro and hit the same key and it will cast whichever one it can first. Ie, put reactives, then timed melee, then melee, then timed range, then range and just press the single button. Works great for making sure you dont miss the reactive popup, however in PvP it can make you a little worse because you arent always casting the exactly right ability.

* Runes (from runebreaking) make a HUGE difference in character ability.

* Do more rifts, planar shards matter.

* Purple and Blue planar shards are only good in the zone you earned them, but planite is good in all areas

* If you hit Escape to get to the main menu there is an "Import" button. It will import all settings (keybinds, graphics ooptions, layout, etc) from another character that you have already set up to the one you are on

* This link: Slash Commands- Shows the useful /commands, including such things as how to save and load equipment when you change roles.

* This link: ACT - Shows how to set up Advanced Combat Tracker for Rift (lets you fine tune your damage per second by trying different things and seeing the results)

* In the Raid window people's names are color-coded by their role.
•Red = tank
•Purple = support (typically Bard)
•Blue = Healer
•Yellow = Ranged DPS
•Brown = Melee DPS

* When you complete some major quests, a diamond appears top center of your screen, click it to claim your loot for that event.

*In settings you can make it so you can queue spells / abilities up (default is short queue, can change to long queue or no queue)*

*Turning VSync off can DRASTICALLY improve your Frames per second*

*Under Settings there is a greyed out Global UI size. This will scale the bags and Character box, which you can not do manually under Edit Layout*

*If you collect an artifact, and when you go to add it the artifact window is just a blank screen - close it, press C, click on Artifact - and your option to add it will reappear*

*The Planar Lure that you get from an early quest will allow you to convert Tears to Rifts. You will get an additional point bonus for doing this, which will boost you up the leaderboard*

*Under Settings there is an Auto PVP Flag option - turning this off will not put you into PVP mode if you accidentally hit an enemy stone*

* When you have to use an item for a quest, no need to search it in ur inventory. Just press the icon apearing in your quest list on screen.

* Press Ctrl+F (default) to search your bags

* When key-binding, hover the mouse pointer over the action bar slot you want to bind a key to and press the key you want to bind to it

* /twitter and /twitterpic to make twitter updates while playing

* To search on H for an item, if you have one copy of it in your Bag, just Right click on this item and AH will auto-search the AH.

* Many NPC's offer daily quests, for crafting, winning Warfronts, or simple quests. Doing them nets you nice rewards, experience, and faction coin for buying special items

* If you have a soul with no training points spent in it, you can swap it out for another soul without going to any trainer. Please note you must have at least 4 souls for this to work.

* At level 13 you can get quests (one at a time) for the other 5 souls you have not already gained. To get it, just go close a rift and then use the item in your bag, then turn in the quest. This lets you have 8 souls to choose between.

* You can have uip to 4 roles (each one costs more) so you can have 4 different setups. Also, you can make a macro that changes your role and all your equiipment (if neede, ie tank to dps spec)

* When you visit a vendor, there is a small icon at the bottom center of his trade window. The icon looks like a stack of coins, on a small circular button. This will sell all sellables (gray items) in your bags.

* While in game, type /exportui and hit enter, this saves a file in the rift folder for your ui setup
Then type /exportkeybindings and hit enter, this saves a file in the rift folder for your keybindings

Now when you go to another shard, etc., you can type /importui , then /importkeybindings .

* Here is another tip. Save different UI setups for melee, spellcasters, petusers, etc.
Examples

/exportui melee
/exportui spells
/exportui pet

* Auction EVERYTHING you dont need that is runebreakable. Runebreakers will buy inexpensive greens off the AH, allowing them to advance skill and you to make more than the vendor will pay.

* In the settings menu, there is an option to "Cast on Target of Target"; This is excellent as a healer spec. Keep your target as your tank, and you can continue to cast damaging spells at what your target is targeting, and still throw heals on your target, all without losing your tank target.

* CONTROL-LEFT CLICK on a piece of gear (weapon, armor) and a preview pane will pop up so that you can view the item on your character. (also can zoom in and rotate said character)

* Explore more. There are a lot of hidden places that have rewards in the too. One for example is the highest mountain peak in Silverwood, had a blue item for me and an achievement for reaching it.

Explanation of Server Types:

PvE - Player versus the Environment.
You can flag yourself for PvP at anytime that you wish. This server type is good for those that wish to quest mainly with little interruptions. (do be advised there is PvP objectives that you can do if you choose that particular quest)
PvP - Player versus Player.
This type of server, you need to be extremely aware of your surroundings. Not only do you have to watch for mobs (non playable characters) you have to be on the lookout for players from the opposite faction that WILL attack you. If you do not feel comfortable playing on this style of server, it is recommended you choose PvE.
RP-PvE - Role Playing Server.
Same as regular PvE but you immerse yourself in the story, creating a backstory for your character. It is not uncommon to see other players acting out as they would if Telera was real.
RP-PvP - Role Playing Server.
Same as regular PvP but again you immerse yourself in the story.

Callings? Trees? Souls? Branches? Roots? Builds?
When I first heard about this game having 9 soul trees for each class I was stunned. The first thing that came to my mind was, "I must play this game.", my second thought was "They are going to have a hell of a time balancing the classes." Anyways I came to the Rift forums and eventually found a soul calculator and started making builds before even playing the game. At first I was a little overwhelmed, what calling should I play? what souls does each calling have? what does each soul do best? Ahh! That's what I want to help people with. Especially with open beta coming up in a few days when better to make a post about classes/souls and how to make your own build.

First there are 4 callings, Warrior, Rogue, Cleric, and Mage. These are pretty generic and if you have ever played an mmo before you should know what each calling is generally like and good for. While the callings are generic the souls aren't. Each class has 9 soul trees, while each class has 9 soul trees, only 3 can be used at the same time. You can swap them out anytime at a trainer by reseting your roles. (Your roles are your 3 soul trees you have picked.) You can purchase multiple roles to equip at anytime as long as you are not in combat but you may only have one role equipped at a time. (3 trees = 1 role.) Now each tree has branches and roots. You are probably confused right about now, because when I first looked at the game I was like "whaaat????" but once you see it, it's really not that bad. In each tree you have branches and roots. You spend points you get from leveling up on the branches (for example +1% chance to critical hit when attacking.) when you spend enough points on the branches you will get root skills. The bigger you make your tree the bigger the roots get to support the tree. Root skills are skills that you get that are based off of the tree you put your points into.

Now you are probably more confused then when you came here right? That's why I'll be explaining the classes/the souls and how to make a decent role (With screenshots!) using the soul calculator.

When leveling through the starting zone you will eventually get to pick your three starting trees. You can pick from any of the trees and once you have picked them you cannot unlock the other 6 until later in the game. 5 can be unlocked by doing soul quests in your main cities once you hit level 13 or higher and the last one through pvp. Once you have more souls, you can change your tree's around in your role by going to your calling's trainer and selecting reset my role. (I'll add a screenshot in here once beta starts up again. If I forget someone remind me.)

In my guide I wont be explaining the PVP soul that each class gets, eventually I will make a PVP post and will explain about them then but for now they can't be gained until later on by doing PVP (getting enough favor to buy the soul.) and even so, you can't put points in the soul past the first row until you get level 50 and do more PVP.

For each soul I will list if it is either a defensive soul, offensive soul, support soul or a healing soul.

The warrior class souls: Offensive/Defensive
Beastmaster - Offensive Soul, Uses a pet and pet based skills.
Champion - Offensive Soul, Uses Two-Handed weapons.
Paladin - Defensive Soul, Uses shields and Life based attacks.
Paragon - Offensive Soul, Uses 2, One-Handed weapons.
Reaver - Defensive Soul, Uses Death Based attacks.
Riftblade - Offensive Soul, Uses elemental skills, they have a decent amount of ranged and melee skills.
Void Knight - Defensive Soul, Uses Pacts, strong against magic.
Warlord - Defensive Soul, Uses buffs and support based skills to help the group.

The rogue class souls: Offensive/Defensive/Support
Assassin - Offensive Soul, Uses poisons.
Bard - Support Soul, Uses sound to buff the group, heal the group and deal damage at the same time.
Bladedancer - Offensive Soul, Uses Rhythmic actions to buff themselves.
Marksman - Offensive Soul, Uses ranged attacks.
Nightblade - Offensive Soul, Uses fire and death attacks.
Ranger - Offensive Soul, Uses a pet and ranged based attacks.
Riftstalker - Defensive Soul, Uses plane shifts to catch enemies off guard.
Saboteur - Offensive Soul, Uses bombs and explosions while attacking.

The mage class souls: Offensive/Support/Healing
Archon - Support Soul, Uses buffs and debuffs to strengthen the group and weaken enemies.
Choloromancer - Healing Soul, Uses healing and life based abilities to heal the group while attacking.
Dominator - Support Soul, Uses debuffs to control fights and weaken enemies.
Elemental Summoner - Offensive Soul, Uses different elemental pets.
Necromancer - Offensive Soul, Uses death damage and a skeletal pet.
Pyromancer - Offensive Soul, Uses fire spells.
Stormcaller - Offensive Soul, Uses air and water spells.
Warlock - Offensive Soul, Uses death spells to deal damage to enemies while healing yourself.

The cleric class souls: Offensive/Defensive/Healing
Cabalist - Offensive Soul, Uses death spells.
Druid - Offensive Soul, Uses life damage and pets. Has ranged, melee and healing based skills.
Inquisitor - Offensive Soul, Uses both life and death spells.
Justicar - Defensive Soul, Uses a shield and life based attacks.
Purifier - Healing Soul, Uses shields to protect others and long casting heal spells.
Sentinel - Healing Soul, Uses life based attacks and uses big heals to heal multiple people.
Shaman - Offensive Soul, Uses melee based attacks.
Warden - Healing Soul, Uses water based attacks and healing spells that heal people over time.

*Phew* That should give you an idea as to which callings and which souls do what, but how do we use this information to make a build for you to use? Open up zam's soul calculator. »rift.zam.com/en/stc.html From there pick the calling that you wish to use. For this guide purpose I will be clicking rogue. You should then have 3 tree's and 3 little boxes. Click one of the boxes and now is where the fun begins. What soul should we pick first? A good option when making any build is to almost always pick your three souls with, a main soul in mind, a soul to mix together with the main soul, and a soul to dump a few points into and get a few extra nice bonuses. For now just choose your main soul though, the one you want to play and the one you want to base everything else around. For the guide I am going to pick Assassin.

From there whenever you put points into your branches into certain skills, you will get root abilities based off of the number of points you have spent on the branches of that soul. See how each root has a number on it? If it has a number 2 on it then it requires 2 points to be spent into the branches of that soul to get that skill. Simple right?

Now what should we pick? Well we picked Assassin which is an offensive soul so we should be getting offensive abilities. When choosing talents look at your roots and see which ability is and does. Try to think about which moves you will be using most often and pick your branches based off of that. Also look to see if you can find any branches/roots that work together.

There, you have spent 26 points into the Assassin tree and are focused around poisons and critical hits. You can tell what level you need to be up in the top corner for this to work.

Now we should decide how far you want to go into this tree. Each tree has an added up number of 51 points that can be spent into each branch. Most of the time it is not beneficial to put all 51 points into the tree because you are wasting points that would be more helpful spent into another tree. Right now the only other roots we will get that work with poisons or critical hits are at 38 points and 51 points. Lets try to get the 38 point root but ignore the 51 point one. Now you need to pick 12 more points to put into your branches, we picked all of the stuff that had to deal with critical hits and poisons so now try to take abilities that will help those out as well. For example we could put 2 points into getting 4% more physical damage. That will make you do even more damage when you do critical hit. Or 15% more damage when attacking from behind with Savage strike and Final blow, two of your main roots that you will be using to do attacks with.

Once you have spent your points now we have to pick a second soul. Try to find a soul that also has a lot of critical hit branches/roots or poisons branches/roots to try to merge the two. A while back I had someone helped me to find out that branches DO stack. If you have one branch that says 5% more crit and another one in another tree that says 5% more crit also, that is 10% crit.

For this guide I picked Nightblade. As you can tell after compairing them all most souls don't mix very well together. Nightblade has some crit talents but also has some talents that increase non-physcial damage. Your poisons are non-physical damage since they deal water damage. I spent about 22 points into Nightblade branches getting the ones that seemed to increase or help my Assassin abilities but also ones that would be increasing the damage of some of my new Nightblade abilities that I was going to be using along side my assassin moves.

That left me at level 45, but we still have a 3rd soul tree. We can only get to level 50, so we dont have many points left to spend. Some builds will be able to mix 3 soul trees together really well while others may have a hard time mixing a 3rd soul tree in. Since we only have about 6 points left you should look for one tree that has a branch with 5 points in the first row that are going to help in some way. For this guide I picked ranger. It will not only give you a pet to increase your damage and help you while leveling but it has a first row branch where you can increase your critical hit chance by 5%. Now we have 1 point to spend where ever.

At this point you can really pick anything. I picked foul play in the assassin tree because it never hurts to be able to stun someone or something for 4 seconds. Here is a screenshot of what my build looked like when I finished!

There you go! Hopefully this guide can help all of you guys make your own interesting builds that you love to play and hopefully there will be less "cookie-cutter" builds out there if everyone is off making their own! Remember that you are able to purchase 4 roles. You dont have to have that many at the start, for now I'd sugguest just making one good one that you really like, but eventually you will probably have to have 4 separate roles so don't be afraid to try new things out and have fun with making your builds, if you aren't sure if something will work or not go test it! You can always pay to have your role/roles reset by going to your calling's trainer.

You can also get the link to your build so that you can save it for later by clicking link to this build.

Hopefully this helps some people, especially those people with Riftdrawls. Go make some builds and have fun with it. Beta is still six days away, ugh, beta 7 will be starting up February 15th and remember everyone it will be open beta which means we may see tons of people logging on just to try the game or just to complain or bug people. It might be a good experience but it could also be a bad one so just watch out and possibly ignore your chat until launch!

Guide: Installing Rift on Linux Ubuntu 10.10 with Winetricks
Ok, before I start the guide I'm going to give you a little background about how my Linux gaming journey started.

I woke up the morning of February 24th, the day of headstart, to discover my hard drive had epically failed itself into oblivion. Forced to find a replacement, I got a new hard drive at the local BestBuy but I had one big problem: No windows Install discs came with my laptop (Thanks Dell!).

Fortunately, I had a spare Ubuntu 10.10 install disc I had made a while back for some reason.

Then began my frustratingly complicated journey of Linux gaming.
I knew about WineHQ but I knew nothing of how to use it. I searched high and low for guides on how to install DirectX 9 on Wine to no avail. Finally, after learning some command lines and getting familiar with Terminal, I found a solution at 4am last night. Here it is:

GUIDE------------
Note: This is for UBUNTU 10.10.

BEFORE YOU START: I would highly recommend you uninstall previous Wine and Rift installs. Make sure you delete your .wine folder in your Linux home folder. We want no records of past installs.

1. Go to this website: »www.winehq.org/download/deb , follow the instructions and then "click download version 1.3."

2. Once 1.3 is installed open up your Terminal window.
Type these commands:

Code:
winetricks d3dx9and then...

Code:
winetricks vcrun2008A log should appear in Terminal after you issue the command lines to confirm that these programs are installed.

3. Go to the rift Headstart page and download the Rift Patcher and install like you would on Windows. Note: some of the text in the installer my not show but this is normal.

4. Update and run Rift to patch, once patched play the game, everything should be in working order. IF the installer asks you for some reason to install directx, ignore it and play anyways.

/end guide

This is what worked for me, hopefully, it will work for you too.
The performance is a little slow sometimes (i get around 15-20 fps). But I won't be playing on Linux for long. I've got a Windows 7 CD on it's way

How do you kill a healer in Rift? At the moment either put a healing debuff on them, or gang up on them with a few other players. People all through the Rift forums have been either calling for a healing nerf, asking how to kill healers or both at the same time. For now though, until healers eventually do get nerfed we need to find a good way to kill them. The best way to do that would be make one of your roles solely for pvp. Most people, including my self are usually just hopping into warfronts in our PvE specs and finding ourselves in trouble pretty quickly. With the fact that we can have four roles at all times makes it easy to have an off pvp spec that we can just throw on even if we do only pvp once in a while. Because of the fact that healers are so hard to kill in pvp right now we need to be building our pvp roles around healing reduction. Each calling has a few ways to reduce the healing that the heal is doing and since you only really need one it shouldn't be that hard to spec around them.
This mini guide is going to be about which callings/souls have healing reductions, where, and how much does it reduce.

The warrior calling is one of the callings with the least amount of ways to reduce healing. They only have two souls that can do it, Champion and the pvp soul Vindicator.
Lingering Wounds: Requires 15 points in the Champion soul.

Trauma: Requires 15 points in the Vindicator soul.

The rogue calling has a few ways to reduce healing. They have three souls that can do it, Ranger, Nightblade and the pvp soul Infiltrator.
Master Huntsman: Requires 25 points in the Ranger soul.

Fell Blades: Requires 32 points in the Nightblade soul.

Anathema: Requires 15 points spent in the Infiltrator soul.

The cleric calling is the other calling with the least amount of ways to reduce healing other then warrior. They only have two souls that can do it, Druid and the pvp soul Templar.
Spiteful Spirit: Requires 44 points spent in to the Druid soul.

Retribution: Requires 20 points spent in the Templar soul.

The mage calling has the most ways to reduce healing. They have four souls that can do it, Chloromancer, Dominator, Necromancer and the pvp soul Archmage. The Dominator soul has multiple ways to reduce healing unlike the other souls.
Blight: Requires 38 points spent in the Chloromancer soul.

Void Shroud: Requires 18 points spent in the Dominator soul.

Chastise: Requires 30 points spent in the Dominator soul.

Draining Presence: Requires 51 points spent in the Dominator soul.

Essence Link: Requires 10 points spent in the Necromancer soul.

Withered Veins: Requires 15 points spent in the Archmage soul.

Those are all of the ways to reduce healing as of now. Hope this helps a little, I can't write any good guides until the beta comes back up so there wont be many posts over the next few days. Once it does though check back once in a while for new updates and new guides. Thanks for reading and leave any comments you have below. Also do you guys think healing should be nerfed or do you think it is fine where it's at? Leave your comments in the comment section below!

I don't care about DPS, or if I can better my DPS. hence why I dislike meters and all the bragging/whining that goes with them. All I care about is if I fight the boss, will I win. If I die, then I have to try something different, like get buddy.

Also when I ran WOW without meters/add ons the game ran smoother/better performance. With the addons/meters installed [had to have them for the guild I was in] the game slowed down, took forever to load. The meters take away ram, and cpu cycles that the game could have used.

Thank you for the crafting info.
They sound interesting.

Currently I have mining and foraging. From reading your post, it looks like weapon making will be the next move.

After becoming my server's most renowned Master Doctor in SWG (pre nerf) and after writing the "The Complete Miner's Guide" for EVE Online, I always knew I had a knack for the crafting and the carebear stuff.

Aion 100% disappointed me on the crafting. Total bullshit. I hope Rift improves there.

Hey Tree in your digging did you ever come across any loot tables? I think i have run DD on the guardian side 8 times and have never seen the same drops twice. Also would be nice to kind of plan out what i want from each instance.

Oh and my work has had anything rift blocked since beta 3 so i kinda envy you lol.

IN RIFT you can dye your clothes to add some individuality to your gear. You can not dye all items and so far I've come across some belts or shields I was unable to dye.

There are two places to buy dyes, one for each faction.

Defiant - Keyvin Stylwit, Meridian (????,????)

Guardian - Fionasinna the Vivid, Sanctum (7559,3049)
Dyes can also be created by Apothecaries so check for them on the Auction House or better still train as an Apothecary.

There are 3 types of dyes, light (45 gold), regular (5 gold) and dark (15 gold) and, from vendors, each colour follows the same pricing tariff.

The dyes at the bottom of the table are crafted by an Apothecary.
