Amoris692001This thread is worthless without picsPremium join:2003-08-18 Brooklyn, NY | [Mobo] AM3 build Hi guys, I've been incognito for a while but I have been thinking about making a new generation computer.
I've was Intel for my last build (P4) but I want to try AMD for this one.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition for my CPU. 4GB DDR3 1600 Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W
As for my motherboard, I come asking advice.
I've searched around and seen (esp. at Maximum PC) that MSI makes pretty nice OC ready boards.
I want the 890 ($180) chipset rather than 790 ($150) since the price differential is only like $30.
What's got me stumped is there are two MSI 890FXA boards, a GD-70 ($180) and GD-65 ($160). There are also two of the 790FX line.
What should I do? Is there a real difference between the two?
Should I even look at these MSI boards?
I do not mind using the 790FX board, I just want to take full advantage of this current hardware. It blasts what I'm currently using (a Dell SC420) away.
I want to be able to play newer games (Shogun Total War 2 is coming out) and enjoy graphics.
I want to push my system but not solely for that reason.
Please help |

| reply to Amoris692001 Current AMD chips are pretty weak. I'd stay away from them, especially if you intend to game. A 5770 is also a fairly weak video card, I doubt it will be able to play STW2 very well.
In my opinion, shoot for something like this:
Intel i5-2500K nVidia 560 Ti / AMD Radeon 6870 8GB Ram 600w PSU
A budget would help tailor these recommendations to your needs. -- Will WWIII start today? |

My budget is $500 for CPU, Memory, Video Card, PSU
I have a HD (ssd), case, and dvd burner. |
|
 | 500 for cpu, vidcard, memory, psu, and mobo (as OP was about getting a mobo?)
I mean 500 + like a full build + play games not out yet and enjoy the graphics (guessing eye candy?) = kinda hard...
What res are we trying to run at?
Looking at the system req's for that game it's nuts omg 20gig of HDD space?
It recommends an i5? lol damn... a 6000 AMD card? lol |

Not pretty, and slightly over budget: $568 total. That said, you could drop down to a Radeon 6850 and save about $55, which would put you about on target. You could also save $40 by dropping down to 4 GB ram. --

I went slightly over budget but selected the MSI 890FXA-GD65. Going to slow into OC.
Mobo: MSI 890FXA-GD65 CPU: AMD 955 Phenom IIX4 Memory: 8GB dual Channel DDR3 1600 (»www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···20231314)
Can you help on the ram timings?> |

Nice build, hope you're happy with it, and your mobo supports AM3+. |

A second video card can't hurt either.
Otherwise, nice setup. |
