• You are right on the cusp for a "normal" DL/UL speeds after taking the overhead out of the equation.

• Let's kick it up a notch and see what it does.

Download DrTcp

Set Tcp Receive Window to 95832

Set Time Stamping, Selective Acks, Path MTU Discovery, Black Hole Detection to Default.

Leave Max Duplicate Acks and TTL Blank

Save/Exit DrTcp

Reboot

Rerun the Tweak Test

Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: Speakeasy POPs

Also, test here »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test512

Note your transfer rate after about 30 seconds. Then cancel the download.

Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test.

Did you allow ICMP (pings) in the router?

Do you have a SW firewall? If so, did you allow pings in the SW firewall?

after changes made, new speed results from chicago were 3.11/.62 and DC was Last Result:
Download Speed: 3063 kbps (382.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 630 kbps (78.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
at 30% the file transfer rate was 376 kb/sec. I have been in contact with my ISP and they have identified a utilization issue at the DSLAM and that is supposedly why my speed has been so slow during peak times (5 pm to 11 PM). Anything else I can do or am i tweaked out?

• Rerun the Tweak Test with the new settings.

• Go ahead and tweak the XP box. Run some speed test and post the tweak test for this box Tweak Test

Any update from your ISP?

Have you tweaked the wireless box?

the update from my ISP is "there is no update at this time" They said earlier they found a utilization issue, but thats all i've heard. I applied the same tweaks to the wireless box. During peak times i get about .3/.4 speeds..ridiculous. I will have to repost when the ISP issue is resolved

As far as tweaks go, you are looking good. How are the speeds on the wireless box?

The slowdown cannot be tweaked; that is an ISP issue.

the speeds on teh wireless pc are good as long as its not peak times. It is getting annoying on waiting for a resolution to my problem from my ISP.

Many ISPs will not do anything until you scream and yell. Ride them like a bull at the rodeo.

Keep calling and tell the CSR that you will call every four hours to check on where they are. If you are not getting anywhere with the CSR, tell them that you want a Level III Technician. Don't take a no or he is busy right now; be a pest.
