Re: Forced Upgrade to U-Verse Coming! Go to ATT online and enter your phone number to see if you can get U-Verse. If you can start the order online on the right you can see what your monthly total will be as well as the amount of your VISA Gift Card depending on what all you order. HSI, Phone, TV. All 3, or just 2 or just 1 item. Gift Cards are anywhere from $100 - $350 again depending on what you order. Discounts for the first year will also show up on the right of the page.

I can easily start an order and select the 3600HGV but nowhere does the $100 Visa Gift Card option show up. I can get a popup that explains the special offers, but that is limited to $25 off on TV, or "up to" $350 off for various packages. It says that once the applicable items are added to the cart, the deals will automatically appear in the cart. | reply to IL60827 It looks like things are moving along based on the update to the TOS that AT&T sent out. These are probably the two of interest:
- Service/Site Changes: We have added language stating that AT&T may need to modify or discontinue your service, either temporarily or permanently. - Conversion from DSL to U-verse High Speed Internet: We have added language to this agreement that will allow us to convert customers from our DSL network to the AT&T U-verse High Speed network, where available. |

Maybe it does not show up because you only order HSI? I picked Elite ate got a $20.05 discount. And I picked the 250/Voice package at $25. That is when the $100 showed up credit/card showed up. At least you did get the message about the up to $350 off.
Or like you said it maybe be only in certain areas? Then you should wait for ATT to switch over for you. Unless of course you want/need the extra 100GB a month.

| reply to NormanS You are crying about faster speeds and we are just praying for competetion. Think about us that have only had DSL and Cable. How about some Fiber love or wireless to give us a price break? I am getting ready to move to Charter as DSL is just too slow now. Between online gaming, Netflix and Facebook uploads a 6meg 512 connection just doesn't cut it anymore. |

| I was not forced. I gladly switched from DSL. I am paying $20.05 less per month (for 12 months) And I get a 250GB cap (Like Comcast) instead of my 150GB Cap with DSL. Even thou I have not used over 100GB in a month.
April 6th is the install date.
Still keeping my Dish for TV. The TV packages are still to expensive. Dish is the better deal. -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

| I'm considering doing the same thing. I have the DSL Elite service now. I understand that it is ADSL and that if I switch to U-Verse at the same speed it will use ADSL2+ technology.
Here's what I'm wondering. My current service has recently become rather slow. I used to get about 5 down and now I'm getting about 2.5 down. AT&T tells me it has to do with stability. If I were to switch to U-Verse, would I get better stability, and therefore better speed?
Basically, I'm trying to decide what to do here. If I'm still going to be paying for 6 down and only getting 2.5, I might as well purchase 3 down or consider going to Comcast.
Any ideas here? |

If I were to switch to U-Verse, would I get better stability, and therefore better speed? If your current service is nowhere near the stated speeds, there's no guarantee that changing from ADSL to ADSL2+ will do better. It is possible if the problem is in the wire center as opposed to outside plant, or if they switch you over to different F1 and/or F2 pairs.
As always ... Have you checked your stats at the NID to compare to what you're getting when connected inside the house?
If the problem is on AT&T's side of the NID, I would post in AT&T Direct and see if they can spot the problem. And ask them to elaborate on "stability" in this context. -- USNG: 16TDN2870 Find your USNG coordinates: USNGWeb |

| Yes the wife still wants a landline and the caller ID feature. She returns calls on her cell phone so the 250 package at $25 is fine for us. They have the unlimited for $35.
Our phone bill with DSL use to be $95 a month with the long distance package. Now our bill will be $44.95 for the first year and after that $65. Still $30 cheaper -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

LaurielPremium join:2003-05-25 Sacramento, CA | reply to ArgMeMatey Thanks. I actually had not checked at the NID, but you're right. So, I just did it now and got the very same results from within my house. So....something's up and I'll discuss over at the AT&T Direct forum. |

I had actually did check at the NID with the same results. After working with AT&T, it actually turned out that I was 13,200 feet from the CO.
I've since switched to U-Verse VDSL service and am getting reliable service just a smidge under the advertised speed. |

morgan join:2011-08-28 Stockton, CA | reply to IL60827 I have to tell you my experience last week. I had a crisis in my life and I completely forgot to pay my DSL bill. I did not get a 5 day notice as a reminder. Before anyone gets snotty, yes.. I should have paid the bill.
8:30 Thursday night my DSL connection drops. I call Tech Support and I get an automated message stating how much I owe. I think nothing of it and pay it on my way through. At the end of paying for it, the automated voice said there may be other charges that have not been calculated. I thought nothing of it other than to think that sounds like what they tell me when I disconnect service.
Friday Morning at 8:00 AM I call to make sure they got the payment as the tech people told me my service had been suspended. The Business office said your service will be on in two hours. Two hours Goes by and Still no service. They said they had lifted the suspension and it may take up to a total of 4 hours. 4 hours goes by and still no service. The business office blames this on Tech Support. I call Tech support who was saying this makes no sense. They upstaged it to a higher level of tech support. By now it is around 3:00 PM. They finally got through to someone and connected me with them. The customer service person they connected me to said that they had done a full disconnect. I asked her why and she said they are standardly doing this and I cannot restore my DSL as Uverse Internet is in this area.
I explained to her why (medically and financially) I could not afford to be without service. The soonest they could install the Uverse was a total of 7 days after the shutoff. She said she would call me back in less than three hours and see if she could not do an over ride for me to keep the DSL. She gave me her number, but never called me back, nor did she answer when I attempted to call her.
So after realizing she had just blown me off, I get on the phone with new installations.. I purchased a DSL modem less than 2 years ago from them. Unless I should move to an area where they dont have uverse my 2Wire modem is worthless. ATT now wants an additional $100.00 for their new Uverse Modem but state there is a rebate. My past experience with ATT rebates has been a joke at best. PLUS new hookup charges.
I am sitting here on dial-up while I wait for the new installation. I had no choice but to go buy a faxmodem as I have medical records I have to access online for upcoming surgeries the end of this week.
It is clear they can do an override if they choose to. They are jumping at the chance to shut off for non-payment, so for goodness sake if you are on a fixed income make sure you do not let it lapse. They are servicing the existing DSL accounts at this point, but after talking to one of the tech people they are planning on shutting them off too if Uverse is available in their area.
IF you have Uverse Internet available to you in your area, you cannot have DSL and from what I gathered once they are done with this phase they will be forcing others to transist. So for those of you who are flush in bucks, go ahead and be arrogant and tell the rest of us what is good for us. For those of you who have been impacted by the economy and/or have health issues impacting your income, perhaps it is time we all look for other viable options. |

For those of you who have been impacted by the economy and/or have health issues impacting your income, perhaps it is time we all look for other viable options. First, my understanding is that AT&T is replacing traditional DSLAMs at the COs with IP-DSLAMs. These are ADSL2+, but use PTM transport from the DSLAM to the Internet, where traditional ADSL uses ATM transport from the DSLAM to the Internet. And, yes, they will be force migrating users at some point. As they retire the traditional ADSL circuits, there will be no more such equipment to connect to the customer premises; it will be IP-DSLAM or nothing.
Second, if you are disconnected for any reason, they will treat you as a new customer for re-connect. And, again, since they are retiring traditional ADSL, if you are in an area where they offer IP-DSLAM Internet, that is all they will provide on new sign-up.
They should be offering either rebates, or deep discounts on the modems for customers who are force migrated. But that is just my opinion, and, even if I were still with AT&T (I fired them last June), my opinion counts for squat with them.
Addendum:
They are in business to pay their investors (and their top management). They don't have to continue provideing a legacy technology if they find it is not cost effective to do so. That is their arrogance, not mine.
