[OOL] Open Port to use for Home Camera Surveillance System ?

I know I cannot use port 80, but are
there any other ports I can use
to view my Home Camera Surveillance System
when I'm out of town using a laptop ?

thanks...

You can use pretty much any port except for 80, 8080, 25, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

If your surveillance system doesn't allow changing the port to something else, you should be able to redirect it on your router.

For example, it might be:

Src Port Internal IP Dst Port
81 192.168.1.111 80
(external port) (Camera IP) (Camera Port)

Then you would connect externally by typing in:

»your_external_IP:81/

Some IP cameras use port 81 by default. You can use that or you can use any unused open port.

There's tens of thousands of open ports. You should see what your camera allows for port configuration (if it takes a manual input, or selecting one from a list). You'd want to access it as thinkdiff stated.

Here is an article that explains how to configure internet streaming on your router -»www.deskshare.com/resources/arti···ing.aspx
