[request] Add TinyMCE for WYSIWYG posting

As much as I love the beloved bbcode, TinyMCE is a great wysiwyg editor and it seems easy to implement. A lot of forum software is moving over to it, including xenforo, vbulletin and ipb. I'd like to see it here on dslreports too -- a robust editor is needed.

Any reason why? You could still use the bbcode adn text area like you do now.

I guess the question should rather be - why we have to move from what we have now to the new WISIWYG editor?

We actually have WISIWYG here. Just click on "Preview/Attach" button and see. Current way of editing posts is fast, convenient and you have a full control (within the scope of allowed features, of cause). And i't easy to make your post. Common HTML tags are supported - you can make text bold, italic, underscored. You may put bullets and create links to other sites. You may put quotes (different styles are supported) and even code blocks (though, sometimes badly implemented, so when you copy the code from block - it loses its formatting, but that's another story). What I'd miss here is support of tables, and allow to change font, color and background with "style=" attribute. But it's not a big deal.

So, the question is - why it should be replaced with completely new editor now?

He objects to EVERYTHING.

WYSIWYG should have been in the web since its inception. There's no reason to return to pre-1984 text editing.

Ozo,

I appreciate the constructive feedback.

1. The "preview/attach" method is a little outdated. It's like asking us why a text box should pop up where we can reply to a post when hitting the button will take you to a screen where you can reply already does that. Sure both methods work but its about simplifying, streamlining and making the process more intuitive.

2. While most of the users who frequently post on this site are technically inclined, a lot of average and ordinary people come by here as well looking for help and support ... more so now than ever because of the increased need for broadband. These people don't know HTML or BB code and wouldn't even know what that meant if you told them.

3. DSLR actually uses a wierd mix of allowed html (ie: for italics and bold) and bbcode (ie: for code and quotes I think]. 99% of the forums out there do not do this and its not unreasonable to have some uniformity here so people aren't wasting time trying to figure out why text isn't bold. The new editor would allow that uniform posting experience and those who prefer to stick to the old dslr way can do so without issue.

You ask why we should ... because there are a lot of good reasons to add it and there is actually no real drawback to anyone at all for doing so.
