Alternitive currency.

Having skimmed through the forums it's weird.

You"mine" by running your GPU and solving hashs. Which are the security of the currency.

The has been a fixed amount of biycoins produced. They are metered out by this mining.

it will take about 1-3 years to mine 50 bitcoins.

Some smart and paranoid guys on there trying to figure out how much power the NSA and CIA and SAS have if they start mining. Since you cannot track the transactions that can pay for some black book projects or......

So if I set up a server farm mining these bus tokens I don't have to work anymore?

This is about as serious a proposition as using game money from Second Life to pay my bills.

I'm not too worried that the IMF is going to switch over to these anytime soon

On the other hand, a unified global currency may well become reality in the next decade or two if America doesn't address its debt crisis and the dollar finally tanks. Should that come to pass we'll all be paying our bills with Ameros or Credits or Unibux or some other science fiction currency worth 10 cents on the dollar if we're lucky

I've been bitcoin mining for just under 2 months and have made over 200 BTC. Sold them at »coincard.ndrix.com for PaypalUSD then transferred to my bank account.

Profit = $159.20 USD (minus electricity, but that would have gone to SETI anyway)

Nothing out of my pocket. Pays for the electricity it uses and then some.

There will come a day when the cost of running the miner computer will equal the cost in electricity but it's not there yet.
