 | [BC] Optik TV/Internet problems with router and multicast floods I have a few issues that remain unresolved with our Optik TV/internet setup, and I think it requires a bit more expertise than I personally have. I hope the experts here can help!
1) The admin interface on our Telus-supplied Actiontec V1000H router boots me out and sends me back to the login screen whenever I click on "Advanced Settings" along the top, or when I click on "DMZ Host" in the "Firewall" tab. Is this the expected behaviour? I am logged in with the correct admin login/pass. I've used 3 different common browsers on Mac and PC, with the same result. Port forwarding and UPnP I can access fine.
2) I have a second wifi router in bridge mode for 5GHz 802.11n connectivity in addition to the 2.4GHz 802.11a/b/g/n provided by the Actiontec. Whenever the TV is on or a recording is taking place, all the wifi clients on this second router get hit with solid 700kb/s traffic and can no longer access anything until they switch to the 2.4GHz network on the Actiontec. I'm guessing this is what you could call a multicast flood, but I really don't know. What do I have to do to avoid this flood of traffic? Different subnets? VLANs (possible with the Actiontec even)?
There are 39 networks around us in the 2.4GHz band, but only 1 on the 5GHz band. However, we have some devices that can't do 5GHz, hence the desire for both.
Any ideas? |

1 edit | Re: [BC] Optik TV/Internet problems with router and multicast fl It is a multicast flood, and it's exactly what I resolved in my other topic, but my whole network is running on a Netgear.

 | Ha, excellent! Thank you very much pfak! I got quicker and more detailed information here than 100+ minutes on a tech support online chat with Telus (and after researching this problem myself for weeks).
Anyway, I discovered that the Telus guy plugged the PVR ethernet cables into my second router instead of the Actiontec directly. By the time I discovered this, I had also used ifconfig via ssh on the Actiontec to specifically disable multicast for the ports linking to my second router. After moving all the TV/PVR cables to the Actiontec, the problem disappeared, but if this was attributable to my ifconfig or simply moving the plugs, I'm not sure. I'll do some tests in the next few days and post back with my results, for general interest and if/when someone else encounters the same problem.
And now I have working links to the administration areas of the router than are usually easily accessible on just about any other router (and an awesome 5GHz 802.11n network)!
Thanks again pfak |
