Bad call quality, customer service and management response - they have had multiple bad reviews on other sites - stay away

I'm not a big VT fan----

----but this kind of posting from an unregistered anonymous poster does not have much street credibility.

---------------------------------------------

VT is still in business, and they have lots of customers, so obviously they are doing something right most of the time.

paddleduck,
Here's an example of how you can make your post more meaningful:
I moved from Viatalk to Voipo for the following reasons:
1. Death by paper cuts: Viatalk nickels and dimes you on taxes some of which are of the "recovery" type - this means that it is not really a tax but they are charging you to cover the expenses of charging you a tax (if that makes sense).
2. Bad international rates: Voipo has a flat $7.95 per month charge for 20 hrs of international calls - Viatalk charges the 8.95 + about 25% (brings it to about $12) in taxes for the same.
3. The per minute international rates on Viatalk are not competitive.
4. I asked them to provision my BYOD adapter to get 2 lines instead of the default one-line and Viatalk wanted to charge a $29 fee. Voipo provides a pre-provisioned adapter with 2-lines for free and they allow you to use BYOD as well (you support yourself for the BYOD).
5. Voipo wins out on apples to apples out of pocket total comparison for yearly pre-paid plan.
6. As for customer service though neither are great, there is a genuineness in trying to keep the customer happy with Voipo which is lacking with Viatalk.

Peoples experiences differ, so here are my thoughts on the issues raised here:

Both charge taxes and 'recovery' - VT itemizes them for you, VoIPO charges everyone $36/year. For some that is a deal, for others - maybe not. With VT, I am on a term plan, so I paid sales , FUSF and excise taxes up front (real taxes), and pay $2.80/mo for the 911 recovery fees. You pay it one way or another, so not much difference there.

Some providers have better International rates than others. If you make a lot of international calls, you should probably shop around.

Isn't this issue 2? Bulk rate or per-minute, if international is important, then shopping for the best price/quality compromise is essential.

VT provides a pre-provisioned ATA with 2-lines too or you can use BYOD. I don't believe that VoIPO allows 2-line with a BYOD. I expect that changing from BYOD to a provided ATA is what incurs charge for shipping. There really isn't a difference here.

Some of that may depend on hitting a promotion. For me the difference has been pennies.

Your experience with Voipo here describes my experience with VT - as I said before, experiences differ for different people. And believe me, I have no problem firing a company over customer service. I know VoIPo is a quality provider. Things are just not as cut and dried here. As PX said, VT has a lot of customers, so they must be doing something right.

I have used many VoIP service providers. Such reviews are often given by either those users who don't know how to use voip service or the competitors. Otherwise, nearly all the VoIP service providers are offering good sound quality. There may be issues with the billing, features or something else. My suspicion is this person might be having issues with his internet.

Sorry to hear of your experience... I've had years of excellent, trouble-free service from VT. I hope your next provider is everything you hope for.

As a VT customers since late 2005, I have had a trouble-free, it-just-works service from VT this past year as well. Fingers-crossed that it remains this way.

I have had ViaTalk for years w/o a problem. However, it's becoming increasingly important for me to have a mobile app to access my voicemail. For a company that's all about features, the utter lack of interest in providing an Android app in a timely manner has pretty much rubbed me the wrong way. At this point, I'm finishing out my contract and moving on. Seemingly the vibe from this company is that they really don't care about the customers anymore. Stark contrast from a few years ago when they were starting up. Oh well.

Re: Great Via Talk experience

I've been with VT for 4-5 years, maybe 2 lost calls in that time. Quality is as good as my AT&T land line. Just switched from AT&T DSL to Roadrunner, and the VT Pap2 worked with it without anything reset. Super happy, 10X the speed, 10% less cost! (actually 40% less during 12 month TWC discount period)

Now I just ordered my AT&T number Port to VT, they say up to 20 days, is this accurate? I'm ready to tell AT&T to shove it, just want to be sure my number is ported first. And yes, would sure be nice to have a VT app, but logging in through a browser works fine, not that difficult to maneuver.

edit: faxed info, got email they received fax same day; 6 days later got email saying phone# was ported; works great! Very happy with VT.
