I need to upgrade from my SW 595
Do any of the current devices have a connector for an external antenna? I'm using a Yagi antenna and a wrt54g3g-st modem.

All of them have a antenna port
I just looked at the O/D pro and the mifi and didn't see any access for an external antenna
The sales guy said none of them have access

in wireless internet, if using plug and play device than it itself act as a small antenna. no external antennas are needed as such
Depends on your location whether external antenna or amplifier is needed . Making a blanket statement that no antenna is need is totally uninformed and false.
I am using 4G service with the U1901 USB modem. It has external antenna connectors on it.
I also discovered that, even though I am in a very strong signal area, I can improve my speed and performance significantly by using an external antenna, and this is the case in many situations. It makes sense, considering the wavelength at the typical 3G/4G frequencies is around 11 cm (4.33 inches), so moving the modem just a few inches in any given direction can have a huge impact on performance.
In my case, in the best hot spot within my home (corner of two walls on the back of a bookshelf), I routinely get speeds around 6 down and 1.25 up. I have very good signal strength there - SSR of -67 dB and CINR of 27, so traditional logic would indicate that an outside antenna wouldn't be necessary. However, if I do so much as take the modem two steps outside my front door, my download speed instantly goes up to the 10-12 range and I drop about 35 ms off my ping time (from its current 75 - 85 down to around 42 ms), and that's just with the usb stick at the end of an extension cable and someone standing there holding it. I haven't installed an external antenna yet (I'm in the process of ordering one), but I can't wait to see what I get once I have a permanent installation out there and a little gain.
