| Obama budget speech Even $4000 billion over ten years isn't enough, but it's a start. That even our Dear Leader, between vacations (his next one is at Williamsburg, if you care) is suggesting such massive cuts, kinda makes you wonder a bit, doesn't it? Could Bill Gross' recent comments have anything to do with it? Surely not - after all, he is - or was, anyway - one of the largest holders of Treasuries out there; nothing he says is important...

| I think all Presidents get ragged for their vacations. Any President on vacation has access to anyone and anything he needs at any time.
I don't believe we will have long term budget cuts. Nobody wants to make them.
The Republican proposal is largely based on transferring Medicare to private insurance. Over the past generation with starts and stops, we have experimented with Medicare Advantage and similar programs. Where the private sector handles senior health care.
Medicare Advantage companies did their best to cherry pick healthy seniors, and still demanded (and got) a 15% premium over Medicare.
THAT is the problem, selecting healthy (lower cost seniors) AND demanding 15% more than Medicare gets per individual. This indicates the private sector can't match Medicare.
The Republican proposal is to take money out of the hands of seniors and give it to corporations. I do not believe this is in our national interest or the interest of seniors. We already pay a Medicare tax, switching people who have paid 35 years into Medicare to another plan is very unfair imo. This is unfortunately a key piece of the Republican plan. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." | |
