Confusion about speeds supported on ADSL2+

Hello everyone.

Greetings from India!

I am trying to understand "real world speeds" for ADSL, and was wondering if someone could explain those. Right now I see following from my ADSL modem:

ADSL Link Info

adsl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime Retrain Reason: 0
Path: 0, Upstream rate = 493 Kbps, Downstream rate = 1999 Kbps
Link Power State: L0
Mode: ADSL2+
Path: 0
Trellis: U:OFF /D:ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime
Down Up
SNR (dB): 34.5 28.1
Attn(dB): 12.5 5.7
Pwr(dBm): 1.1 12.2
Max(Kbps): 23553 1181
Rate (Kbps): 1999 493

Now my questions are:

1.Max speed is 23Mbps. Can this be really achieved?

2.What exactly is difference between Max 23Mbps and Rate 1999Kbps?

3.If everyone around me (who is sharing same think copper bundle) starts using broadband, will that deplete SNR or possible speeds?

I really need data about "real" world speeds and will really appreciate any help in understanding these values.

Thanks.

Yes, but the dsl may be unstable

The "max" is the maximum attainable sync rate it's a estimate of the maximum speed between the modem and dslam
The "rate" is the dsl speed plan you ordered

The wire pair that connects the modem to the dslam is dedicated to just that connection
The "sharing" doesn't occur until after the dslam

I get it.

One more question:

assuming say 70% of people around me have "similar" line stats, can we say that under this perticular telecom exchange we can have speeds of over 10Mbps in average?

Thanks!

One more question:

There are really three parts to the question.

1) What is the fastest possible DSL sync speed.

2) What speeds are offered by your ISP

3) What is the aggregate capacity of the network.

Item three is important because fast DSL sync speed is worthless if the back-end cannot support multiple customers running at the higher speed.
