The destruction has been going on for 20 yrs. This series of articles reprises & updates what was 1st reported on 20 yrs ago. It's been going on for a lot longer than 20 years. The federal government passed laws requiring foreign automobile manufacturers to build cars in the US or pay stiff import taxes, supposedly in an effort to save American jobs. In reality, it allowed foreign auto companies to avoid import taxes and thus compete with The Big Three without paying import taxes. Since they are foreign corporations, they pay less federal taxes than American based companies. As for American jobs, ALL cars manufactured in the US are assembled here from parts manufactured all over the world. At one point, the Federal Trade Commission was considering labeling the Ford Crown Victoria a foreign care, due to the extent of it's foreign content. |

 | reply to fAcEtIOUs There's a movie out now, "ATLAS SHRUGGED" which eerily parodies the current situation. The novel upon which the movie is based, was written in 1957, so the author figured out what endless cycles of government regulations would lead to and wrote a fiction that was to become... prophecy. I suggest you go see the movie. All of your questions will be answered. |
