It has a 500GB HDD but I think it is only partitioned for 250GB. |

You have questions? We have answers? What advantage does Cox receive for giving users a smaller DVR partition?
Second question: I changed my DVR user advanced settings to 1080i to feed my 1080i compatable HDTV. When I tune to ABC and Fox HD my DCX 3400M DVR display still shows 1080i even those those two networks transmit 720p OTA. Is this a problem? Should I change back to 720p on the Moto DVR menu since it is a one size fits all deal.
Third question: Are there any non-user settings I could tweek for better quality video? I ask because Tulsa Cox has, in my view, heavily compressed video on most channels. |

Setting the box to always send 1080i to the TV simply makes the upscaler in the box do all the work. If you leave it to default and your TV receives a 720 signal the TV's scaler does all the work when necessary. |

So what is the preferred setting on the Cox DVR box? |

Either setting is fine from a service perspective. I would suggest trying it both ways to see which gives you a better picture. You may find that some devices rescale picture better than others. |

Cox tech in OKC said to set box on 1080. I see no difference on TV video quality either way. Now I'm trying to figure out why my Moto DVR boxes turned themselves off by themselves overnight. |

there is a stand by option in the user setting menu that is accessed when the box is powered down starting with firmware 22.92 which could be the reason the box turned it self off after a period of non use. |

New boxes didn't turn off overnight. Maybe boxes both got hit with an update the night before. Boxes now appear to be working normally. I do really miss using my now retired series 1 TiVo with an extra harddrive and a lifetime subscription. It was my friend in the analog age. Thanks for your answers. Thread closed. |

You can get a TiVo series 4 (TiVo Premier)... I use a series 3... it's got 2TB of storage for about 300HR of HD or so. If you we're already a TiVo owner with a lifetime you should still be able to get a discount ($100 off lifetime). |

The $20 a month subscription fee is a TiVo show stopper for me. The Cox DVR setup menu suggests that nearly all of the 500 gigs is available for show storage. |
