Let's hear it for MY Myron.

I still love watching him on PBS (Lawrence Welk, that is).

Were we really that nice back in those days?

Well, it's time to remove MSE from the system and go back to AVAST! I never thought I would say that, but after lots of checking and thinking, I am going back to what I think is still one of the best out there.

I had trouble with the 1st released build of v. 6. But it's been fine the last couple of builds. I feel you'll be ok.

Thank you. I hope so. I really do miss it. So far,I've only had the free version, but I am considering buying the Suite this time around.

4/20/11 Hurray! I did it. I am back in the saddle again and even paid for it! Now, if I can only figure out how the Sandbox runs, I will be happy. I have printed the instructions and will read them later.

As a long time user of Avast free I waited patiently for this edition to go final, and watching the Avast forums to see if anything significant turned up that indicated any severe problem/s.
Not seeing anything, this AM,I D,L and installed through internal updater, and have to report that it was a FLAWLESS install. After a reboot, which is necessary, everything is working very well.
A quick look in my task mgr. at Avastsvc.exe process is showing a lot LESS memory usage than before.
The only thing I don,t know at this point in time is how well the Sandbox feature will work, and if it will create any problems...Never installed the Webrep plugin...will wait and see about that option...
Well done Avast team!!!!

Art

Edit...

Avast edition I WAS using 5.1.889----OS is Win xp sp3...
I also shutdown my firewall,Prevx, and WinPatrol Pro before installing to prevent any hiccups...

Just a FYI ... with the avast! Home periodically check the upgrade option for avast! IS. avast! has some good discounts for avast! Home users to upgrade to avast! IS.

The single avast! IS license is good for three home systems, and it has a custom install to choose to install only AV if you do not want the Firewall and Spam features of the IS version (i.e., avast! Pro install).

Back when avast! 5 was released I was using Pro on my main system, and Home on my other two systems. There was a little over a month left of my Pro license period. Back then I guess avast! was trying to entice avast Home users to upgrade to IS version with substantial discounts. Was able to get avast! 5 IS (3-Users) for three years for a little more than it would of cost to renew my one Pro (Single user) license for a another year.

I would have stuck with the free were the Pro not on sale. now I have to figure out how to use it with the sand boxing option. Have not used any kind of virtualizing before.

All you have to do is right click on a desktop icon, or a start menu item and select "Run in Sandbox"
I have my settings this way.

For those that have two or more PCs, avast! IS will most likely be the least expensive option. As noted previously the custom install allows installation of only avast! AV for those who do not need/want the IS Firewall and Spam features.

Thanks for the image. I uninstalled and put MSE back for the time being. I will be reinstalling it again. I could not get the browser to run in the sandbox no matter what I did nor could I even turn it on without turning AVAST off. Obviously I did something wrong.

Sandbox is just an option JKK...........If your browser is configured properly, you shouldn't need to sandbox it.

I run a few programs in it,just to see how it performs.

Hmmmmmmmm. I think it's configured properly. I never thought about not running it in the sandbox, but for some reason, in or out, I cannot open the browser as I had installed, so something was wrong.

There is the Chromium browser that is part of Avast Safe Zone, then there is your regular browser, Firefox, Opera, IE, etc.
Which is the one that would not open for you?
