However Cox cable tech support in OKC says they are not available "due to technical difficulties" and the Cox launch date for Tulsa is unknown. |

w0kie join:2001-12-23 Tulsa, OK | Cox gets the prize for the most fake HD channels "Washington, D.C. (April 12, 2011) -- Cable and satellite operators have often used questionable tactics to inflate their HD channel counts, but Cox Communications may get the prize for the most questionable of all.
The cable operator yesterday issued a press release saying that it is now offering more than 100 High-Definition channels in Louisiana, including New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Acadiana. However, to surpass the 100 mark, Cox said it added 46 "High-Definition" Music Choice channels.
The problem with that? Music Choice doesn't have 46 HD channels; the music service offers 46 channels that feature audio playbacks of popular songs accompanied by still images of the album from which the song comes.
But apparently Cox is calling the 46 audio channels, video channels. And not only that, it's calling them "High-Definition" channels."

Re: [CATV] Music Choice HD - getting the cart before the horse Are they stating that the music channels are "high definition" or hybrid digital?
I've seen the "HD" music channels here locally and the only real difference between the old and the new that I could discern was that the wallpaper was a higher resolution. |

 | reply to w0kie HD music as in 5.1? |

MarkRHPremium join:2005-02-08 Oklahoma City, OK | Looks like it's not here yet in OKC. My music channels are in the 900s and they look SD to me and the audio is 2 channel. Receiver plays/detects them as Dolby Prologic II. Until the 800 channels appear, no way to tell if they'll be Dolby Digital 5.1 or the same it is now.
However, most of the music was probably not originally done in DD 5.1 anyway. |

| reply to w0kie Cox AZ launched the Music Choice HD channels around April 1st and had technical difficulties. The channels were not working on all nodes at first, it took about 2 weeks to get the issues resolved.

As BryanInPHX points out: They are fed with HD images and graphics in 720P 16:9, so that does make them compatible with the HD standard.
I was also told we are planning more launches of Music Choice HD, and Music Choice engineers are working on correcting some issues that have arisen, affecting the signal quality. We expect that improvement within the next few weeks.
On the topic of channel count, I'll let folks here make up their own minds. I personally think when you look at what is in other providers counts, it's not unreasonable to count these. |

BUT, I wouldn't count them as HD channels as this is an audio stream with some visual information. |

Rob_Premium join:2008-07-16 Mary Esther, FL | Jim - how about you guys stay focused on offering 100 true HD channels. I'd glad to pay $5.00 and get the whole room DVR (once it's fixed)
I'd be interested in getting some SD channels such as TVG and HRTV (gonna miss another Kentucky Derby special..)
(and yes, Mediacom up the street has TVG)
But, thanks for helping me out! When the day comes, I'm gonna miss being a cox customer. |

I don't know if or when those particular channels might be added Rob_ |

Rob_Premium join:2008-07-16 Mary Esther, FL | Well, please try to add TVG and HRTV. Those seem to be the least requested here. Now that you can gamble in FL, I'm very surprised you haven't added these here in the area that tends to be last on everything - pensacola, ft walton beach.
Thanks. |
