Hi folks, it's that time of year again... time for our annual polls. Coming polls include Anti-virus, Anti-Spyware and Firewall so please be patient as we roll them out one by one.

Thanks for your input, as valued members of the security community your contributions assist many people here at DSLReports and visitors from outside as well.

We welcome your comments on your particular set-up, multiple configurations and preference but let's keep it information based and not get into discussions that are better left for a separate thread.

*Please note: Some AVs have both freeware and commercial versions, some have suites. These are not broken down separately. Please vote for the AV brand you use and then post which specific version or bundle you use. If you use an AV that is not listed above we'd like to hear about it.

Symantec for about as long as I can remember, on Win XP, Vista, and Win 7. Over the course of many years (and successively newer versions) it's protected me many times but let me down only once, when some kind of relatively stubborn but not really damaging malware did make it onto one system.

This was a few years ago, and I ended up having to install Kaspersky which was the only thing I could find capable of actually removing the infection. Ran that for a while and was very impressed, but went back to Symantec after I concluded that KAV was just too intrusive in the way it interfered with some programs, which always had to be put on an exceptions list. For me, Symantec is a better balance between effectiveness and intrusiveness.

Still, KAV at the time was so good overall that I'm surprised the poll is coming up with such low usage. Maybe it's the cost?

MSE on Desktop, Avast on Laptop - both seem to get the job done. Had AntiVir Avira for a while, but it just got annoyingly intrusive and the popups when updating got old - very fast.

Last two years I've been with Prevx 3 paid, but this year I've went with NOD32 4 paid.

I just wanted to test the waters. Depending on how NOD32 does I might be back to Prevx next year.
