 | reply to Edrick i have always wanted to get a cisco phone system, used, off of ebay and install it at my house, but the phone wiring is piggy backed from jack to jack. no way to re wire it w/o causing a huge mess.
also, i dont know jack about cisco phone systems. do you have to know how to program cisco switches to get that stuff to work? |

If you want to use them with TrixBox, Vonage or other VoIP providers usually you'll want SIP. You can use SCCP on Trixbox / Asterisk but need to compile additional drivers. You'll need to know what the proper steps are to setup the phones with their config but nothing to the extreme of how to use the IOS. You can get Cisco routers that will function with Call Manager Express in which case you'd need to know the IOS.
As far as updates not as of yet, I just started full time work which I wasn't expecting this past week. I had intended on using all my free time (had plenty of it) to redo the network. Now im stuck to weekends. So I'll update with new stuff soon! -- Edrick Smith Independent Film & Broadcast Producer »edricksmith.com |

| reply to tomdlgns Honestly, it would not be something I would try to attempt as an amateur. Cisco's SCCP phone's are feature rich, but can be complicated to setup. In addition, unless your using a SIP trunk, you need to have an FXO capable card to convert VoIP to POTS. |
