Now since you are plugged into Ethernet all that does it send back some extra info to them about the box. I don't recall all of the info it sends back but I believe its the health report and viewing habits? I maybe wrong about the viewing habits and of course if you use the on-demand that eats up a chunk load of b/w. |

Ethernet or phone is basically for PPV ordering and interactive stuff, etc... maybe some other info too who knows, but nothing actually functional, except maybe as alt because its there. NOT REQUIRED functionally. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

Maybe can be if connected, but mine has never been connected to anything but the DISH and that is one way only. There is no uplinking. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

guhuna5149.5Premium join:2001-03-31 Antioch, CA 1 edit | It isn't one only way, There is two ways of communication. You realize that they can set it up to where you can send PPV commands via the two way communication but they have chosen to disable it to converse bandwidth. There was a time where it worked that way no phone line needed. Remember that satellite in the sky is like a HUGE wireless AP. There has to be two ways of communication. Albeit not very much info is passed to and from that way but it IS TWO WAY. |

There was two way INTERNET, and even it originally dial-up return/UL, once (and I think just DTV) but that is LONG gone and now just just the spun off independent Hughesnet. Which is two way sat, but UL still very limited, due to tiny dish and low power.
TV service is only one way and depends on Phone or Internet for UL/return traffic. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

 | reply to slckusr There is no uplink transmit capabilities with your dish. Any uplink is done via your ethernet port or phone line. -- Sprint Cellular SERO Plan, Centurylink Pure DSL |
