[ps3] How to reset/reboot?

My PS3 gave it up after a brown out, and now it won't even start up at all. Is there a way to force reset (factory?) on the unit? If not, how can I get the unit to boot up, or do I need to send out for repair?

I had to do this when a homebrew uninstall got me into a semi-brick mode. Would probably help to have a flash drive with the current firmware at the ready too.

In short, hold the power button from start until it shuts down. Then once more. The second time you'll hear two beeps instead of one; let go after the second beep on the second power cycle. You should (I did anyway) get a recovery menu, where you can do different options like a factory reset, or also reflash firmware onto the ps3.

Though keep in mind, if it decices (or you) to rebuild its database, it'll wipe out all your PSN credentials. Which means any demos or the like you got from download from their store won't work anymore either, until you're able to connect and re-validate your console.

Awsom. Thanks. I will give this a try. I assume I can download the firmware from Sony website to a flash drive?

If you want to go all official, sure.

Was trying to find a link where even older firmware was archived too, but my google-fu at the time was not cooperating with me.

Thanks CodeZero! I followed your directions and was able to get it up and going, without having to "reflash" firmware. I had it downloaded and on a USB flash drive, just in case.

Edit add: I didn't loose any user settings or credentials either.

Lucky for you, and glad to hear that you didn't have any issues there.

Just kinda irks me now. Way before I even installed said homebrew that was for version spoofing, there was a recent bit of another app that was specifically meant for that sort of thing - to basically backup/restore PSN credentials and the like in the event of something like this happening. But now it seems I can't find that anymore to install either. A shame too. But then again, I never had such an event happen to me before either.
