static IP or not?

Aloha:

I heard from somewhere or read on telcoms website that residential DSL accounts receive an static IP? Or is this something we have to request from customer service to set up for us and if so does anyone know the cost?

Thanks,

tonyyy

you can't get a static ip from hawaiiantel unless you convert to a business class telephone line then you are able to get a static ip address.

you are allowed a dhcp ip address which can be the same for a few days depending on how often people are disconnecting and reconnecting to the router/dhcp pool. dhcp ip address are typically loaned out for 24 hours. the dsl modem will automatically check with the dhcp server and confirm/request a new ip on its daily checks.

HawTel dhcp sometimes doesn't change the ip for weeks.
