| Logging into Wireless Network Is there a program, or some way to have a prompt to show up when a person logs into the wireless router i have (2) linksys wrt54gs - and linksys wrtp54g
its not encrypted since i dont mind sharing - understanding what problems that can cause
but would like when ever the router issues an ip that it also issues a TOS or a type or waiver to take SOME legal issues away - i remember it use to be possible just didnt know if still possible |

| Some routers can be setup for remote logging, and some of those will log wireless connections or DHCP assignments. You would need a computer running a syslog server (standard with linux, but not with Windows). -- AT&T Uverse; Zyxel NBG334W router (behind the 2wire gateway); openSuSE 11.4; firefox 4.0 |

| i dont mind running a virtual machine ((syslog = system logger??)) from my computer but how would the setup be to send that prompt/message? i understand backtrack and ubuntu but dont know how making a log, or the system recognizing a new ip. How would it automatically send/push out said prompt/message to that new ip? |

| You could run a program or script that does "tail" on the logfile, and then generates a message when it sees a line that indicates a Wireless connection. -- AT&T Uverse; Zyxel NBG334W router (behind the 2wire gateway); openSuSE 11.4; firefox 4.0 |

 | reply to mastervirus I don't believe those Linksys devices support SNMP, but maybe with an alternative firmware you might be able to get the info out that way.
How about a DHCP server with logging, then ping the address and dump the local ARP table to get the MAC address. This has a DHCP server with text file logging built in: »tftpd32.jounin.net/
DNS Redirector can log the IP and MAC, play an audio file, display a number on a webpage or an LED sign, etc. anytime a client joins. It will also log all the sites they visit, and provide a terms of service/disclaimer page if you want.
You could script any of the above solutions to send an email (using bmail or sendemail) or do a 'net send' from the command line. |

 | im going to try dns redirector i guess and go from their thanks for the info and help |
