Anyone protesting against any usenet provider for removing access to child pornography groups and calling that censorship is indeed one sick puppy. This is not censorship this is just a sign that the usenet provider is run by decent loving human beings who care for the welfare and protection of our children. Anyone seeking those groups or approving of those groups needs lots of help.
I for one support Highwinds in their efforts. What some may call censorship, others call being responsible. The usenet is a better place for every body without certain things. |

I am as against child porn as the next guy, this was nothing more than a "sweeping it under the rug" or "out of site out of mind" thing. Getting rid of the groups based on name does nothing but drive the kiddie lovers to one of the other no traffic groups with obscure names to continue there operations. It would have been far more responsible of all sides to simply work together and target the posters on as as needed basis.
EDIT- As I look over the list of removed groups again, some of the groups simply contain words that some porn sites have no issue using in there actual web site addresses / advertisements.
