Re: Georgia IFITL areas to be upgraded?

said by countscabula:

the problem is u-verse is unavailable to areas with IFITL because there is no pair going from the RT to the house.

you're talk about AT&T is doing or going to do this and that isn't really helping people here with their current problems.

even declaring AT&T is upgrading to a DS3 or whatever for the last 6 months is making people hope for something that AT&T might not even bring.

my neighborhood has fiber but for some reason we are still stuck on DSL, whereas some areas around use can get U-Verse, and has been like that for the past year now.

so please, not unless you validate your replies here with a confirmation from being an insider at AT&T, I would refrain from sounding like you know what AT&T is going to do.

An insider at AT&T would never offer a public declaration on future deployment. Doing so would be an almost guaranteed way to find yourself drawing unemployment insurance. It would also be a good way for a former insider (or contractor/consultant) who had an inside contact to be sued into bankruptcy for an NDA violation.

I was talking about this post....

There is a DS3 upgrade scheduled for this site. It has been scheduled for six months. You should see crews plowing fiber up the road soon. It is part of a project to upgrade most of the DS1 feed stuff to fiber not because of any complaints. The trouble occurred when the bad line was somehow unlocked causing the DSLAM to attempt to send traffic down it.

he talks like he knows what's going on inside....

My guess is that he is either recently retired (or has just otherwise recently left AT&T), and he still has some inside contacts. If he is actually currently employed by AT&T, leaking that kind of information is a good way to get that employment situation changed in short order. Even if he is retired or is otherwise a former AT&T employee, I can't believe that AT&T does not have that situation covered by a long term NDA. If the leaks continue, I would expect that AT&T will start investigating. There have been other posters in this forum who either explicitly identified themselves as AT&T employees, or simply inferred it, who leaked information (or offered to unofficially fix problems) who are no longer posting here. It does not take much imagination to guess why that is so.

NetFixer is just blowing maybe this will happen smoke in his last few posts. I would go with countscabula just from the way his post was worded.

Some of us actually read NDAs instead of just signing the equivalent of a blank document. I also seem to recall that most of your answers to questions asking for inside information are sufficiently vague enough to not really reveal anything that is not already common knowledge.

Getting about 200-400k at night now every night until 10:30 PM. This is the worse and Comcast didn't run cable to our part of the neighborhood so I don't have any other options. Looking into long range yagi antenna to the neighbors who can get Comcast. Almost 2012 and no hope in site for 4x dial-up but with packet loss to make it even worse.

Anyone have any information?

I email Customer_Advocacy_Southeast@att.com and randall.stephenson@att.com about every 6 months and some kind soul always calls back to inform me they don't have any information.

Has anyone in Dunwoody heard any word on the GPON transition? Eagerly awaiting it.

I'm out in Sugar Hill, Laurel Park subdivision. A couple month's ago ATT completed major installation lines all along the main roadways of Buford Dam Rd, of what I can only hope was for enhanced fiber optics to deliver U-Verse. But since then, nothing. Nothing within our Subdivision to indicate they are getting ready to upgrade our pedestals. Charter only installed lines to the first phase, and abandoned the remaining 3 phases of over 300 homes. I've called and petitioned them multiple times already, they are a dead corpse of a company.

Really stinks to be stuck on internet speed that is almost 2 decades old.

What you are seeing is probably fiber to the cell site.

I followed up today on one of the many "Notice of Network Change" notices AT&T filed back in May, covering a number of the Georgia IFITL areas to be migrated to GPON (mine included - Kennesaw/Acworth area). Since most of these notices quoted 3Q2011/4Q2011 modification dates, I politely asked for any general info on U-Verse deployment (after all, adjacent neighborhoods have had it for a couple of years already). I very promptly received a reply, which I can't/won't post directly, but was disappointed to be told that all such upgrades were either cancelled outright or on hold till 2013 at the earliest, for unspecified reasons.

IFITL was pretty cool when they turned it on in, what, 2000? And contrary to other posters' experiences, I CAN generally stream Netflix. My kids've pointed out that FaceTime doesn't work over IFITL (I suspect it's because of upload rate). In general, it's not adequate going in to 2012. My only other viable broadband option, I think, is Comcast.

Happy in GA

Yes, I used to worry about that same exact issue (I live in GA ZIP 30043).
Got tired of waiting so I moved to Charter internet and while it may sound weird, corny or fake, I do honestly think Charter has great customer service and I am very happy. Full disclosure: I own no charter stock and I do own at&t stock.

I could only WISH I had a cable company option. My subdivision, like many other "IFITL" subdivisions is 'not' in the boonies, but rather located in well established real estate and prime business areas. Like I've mentioned in my post previously for some insane reason Charter only installed lines to the first phase, leaving 300+ homes out of the picture. I've grown to have a TITANIC distaste for this fiber set up with no resolution in sight.

I am in the 2nd phase of Laurel Park and as of today, January 4th 2012, Charter will be extending into at least part of the 2nd phase. Primarily Weller Trail and Weller Path. Those two streets I know of for sure. The paint marks are already on the ground. I've pleaded with ATT for years to come back here and they give me the same BS as I've come to expect from them. Once Charter is here, I can finally rid myself completely of ATT. I use CLEAR network now for internet and get MUCH better service than I've every received with ATT. CLEAR is so much more stable than ATT DSL, also. Now that's sad considering CLEAR is wireless and ATT in hardwire copper/fiber.
The official news from Charter was construction to be complete around Jan. 18th and service a few days after. We should be up and running by the last week of January 2012.

Hey AirBizzKit, I'm towards the back of Laurel Park, I guess maybe phase 3? Anyways, I have to take that as good news about Charter. I haven't been able to get them to budge at all. Do you know of a Charter contact that we can push to keep their effort moving towards the rest of us? I think we can at this point assume ATT will not upgrade our pedestals for U-Verse anytime soon.

thanks for the info.

Hey Pompito. I'm not sure of a contact. The company that my wife works out of the home for was the one who apparently got the ball rolling. They want her to have a T1 line, so they started throwing money at Charter, I guess. I can only get the "need to know" information. I would hope that since they are in here connecting 20 to 30 other homesites that they might as well finish it off. Once they start connecting people, I've got to believe that a flood of requests to Charter would be a result. I'm anxiously awaiting a Charter truck in here to start the work so I can ask him some more questions. I will definitely keep you posted.
On a selfish note, I think all the homes between me and the first phase should buy me a six-pack. LOL

Hah, shoot, if your deal ends up bringing us all Charter, you'll have one of those Coors locomotives parked at your house! So if by chance you can pass along ANY information to a Charter contact working your job, please do. Emphasize that we ALL are stuck with only satellite for TV service and caveman internet from Att. I private messaged you too You may want to think about whatever neighbor or friends sign up benefit you could get you know like the $100 deal that DirecTV does.....just a thought..

Well its 2012 and I still miss the faster internet I had 10 years ago. Can't believe I am still hitting pause to buffer 360p streams of YouTube to watch some random 30 second video. Netflix isnt a option nor is hbogo amazon or hulu. Thanks Att! You are easily the worst company in America. Your customers hate you for good reason.
